Shaanxi Judoka Huang Fukun Wins Bronze at 2026 Asian Judo Championships
Ordos, Inner Mongolia — Shaanxi judoka Huang Fukun claimed a bronze medal in the men’s under-100kg division at the 2026 Asian Judo Championships, which concluded on April 19 at the Ordos Municipal Sports Affairs Development Center Gymnasium.
The competition, held from April 16 to 19, featured athletes from 21 countries and regions across Asia, with a total of 288 competitors and coaches participating in the individual and team events.
Representing China’s national team, Huang Fukun began his campaign with a victory over a Mongolian opponent in the round of 16, demonstrating consistent performance to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Huang faced the seventh-ranked judoka from Tajikistan. Despite a hard-fought contest, he was defeated by the higher-ranked opponent, sending him to the repechage bracket.
Showing resilience in the repechage, Huang quickly adjusted his tactics. He secured a decisive win over a Kazakhstani competitor by executing a clean and effective body drop technique (tai otoshi), earning his way back into medal contention.
The bronze medal match pitted Huang against another Kazakhstani athlete. After enduring intense pressure and a tightly contested bout that extended into golden score overtime, Huang maintained composure, seized critical attacking opportunities, and controlled the match pace to claim victory and the bronze medal.
Following the match, Huang reflected on his achievement: “Due to the fact that I carried regret from the previous edition, I’ve been holding onto this drive for years, constantly refining my skills and improving myself. This time, I finally achieved my goal of winning a medal. I thank my coaching team for their continuous guidance and support. I will preserve striving to compete on higher stages and bring honor to my country.”
Shanxi Province men’s judo team coach Ji Jianwei praised Huang’s performance: “In this competition, Huang Fukun demonstrated his true competitive level, displaying strong fighting spirit and exceptional match resilience. This experience has provided valuable preparation for his upcoming participation in this year’s Asian Games.”
The 2026 Asian Judo Championships served as an important tuning event for athletes preparing for the Asian Games, with Huang Fukun’s medal highlighting the depth of talent developing within China’s judo program.
As the continental judo circuit continues, athletes will now shift focus toward regional qualifiers and preparation for the upcoming Asian Games scheduled for later this year.
