Guatemala Archery Team Secures 7 Medals at Gran Premio de las Américas
The Guatemalan national archery team concluded its participation in the Gran Premio de las Américas with a strong showing, earning two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, over the weekend of April 19–20, 2026.
The competition, held as part of the team’s preparation for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, highlighted individual and team excellence across multiple disciplines.
Julio Barillas emerged as a standout performer, capturing the gold medal in the men’s individual compound event. He defeated Colombia’s Pablo Gómez in the final with a score of 149 points, while Gómez finished with 145.
The women’s compound team — comprising Marcela Enríquez, Adriana García, and Sara García — too claimed gold, topping the podium in their category.
Silver medals were earned by the mixed recurve team of Marcela Enríquez and Christian García, and the women’s compound team of Danica Barrera, Mariana Saravia, and Claudia de la Cruz.
Three bronze medals rounded out Guatemala’s haul: one for the national compound team of Pedro Salazar, Julio Barillas, and Marcelo del Cid, which also set an American record with a score of 240; another for Sara García in individual women’s recurve; and a third for Christian García in men’s individual recurve.
The Guatemalan delegation has already secured six quota places for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games — three in men’s and women’s recurve, and three in men’s and women’s compound — making this event a key step in their competitive buildup.
Roberto Hernández of El Salvador took bronze in the men’s compound individual category after defeating Jean Pizarro of Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match.
With the Central American and Caribbean Games approaching, the archery team will continue its training cycle aimed at maintaining and improving upon this performance.
