SC Braga and FC Famalicão played to a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Estádio Municipal de Braga on Saturday, with both teams trading late goals in a match that swung dramatically in the final ten minutes. The result leaves Braga fifth in the Primeira Liga table with 50 points from 28 games, while Famalicão remains 11th with 34 points.
The home side looked to have secured all three points when Ricardo Horta converted a penalty in the 82nd minute to make it 2-1, only for Famalicão to snatch an equalizer deep into stoppage time through a header from Iván Jaime in the 90+4 minute. Earlier, Famalicão had taken a surprise lead in the 28th minute when Luiz Júnior finished a swift counterattack, before Braga equalized just before halftime through a brilliant individual goal from Bruma.
Braga began the match with clear intent, dominating possession and creating several early chances. However, it was Famalicão who struck first against the run of play. In the 28th minute, a turnover in midfield allowed Famalicão to launch a rapid transition. Luiz Júnior received the ball on the left flank, cut inside past two defenders, and fired a low shot past Braga goalkeeper Matheus into the bottom corner for 0-1.
The goal stunned the Braga crowd, but the home side responded with increased pressure. Just four minutes later, Bruma levelled the score with a moment of individual brilliance. The late equalizer means Braga drops two points in their push for a Champions League qualification spot. They remain five points behind fourth-placed Vitória de Guimarães with four games left to play. For Famalicão, the point is valuable in their mid-table consolidation, leaving them seven points clear of the relegation zone with four matches remaining.
Individually, Iván Jaime was the standout performer, scoring the equalizer and causing constant problems down the left flank. For Braga, Bruma’s goal was a highlight, though he and Horta will rue the dropped points after dominating large spells of the game. Braga manager Artur Jorge will be particularly disappointed with the late lapse in concentration from a corner, while Famalicão’s Armando Evangelista will be pleased with his team’s resilience.
Looking ahead, Braga travel to face Boavista next Saturday in a crucial match for their European ambitions, while Famalicão host Rio Ave the following day in what could be a six-pointer in their battle to avoid any late-season scare.
