Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, has stated there is a 90% chance that French cycling prodigy Paul Seixas will start this year’s race, citing the teenager’s dominant spring performances as the turning point in his assessment.
The comment came during an appearance on Jean-Jacques Bourdin’s YouTube show, where Prudhomme reflected on how his view of Seixas’ potential Tour participation has evolved. He recalled telling Bourdin earlier in the year that if Seixas chose not to race, “we wouldn’t hold it against him.” But after Seixas’ sweep of three stages and the overall title at the Tour du Pays Basque, Prudhomme said his perspective had shifted.
“Until February, before he won in Ardèche, I was saying: ‘If he doesn’t come, we won’t hold it against him.’ But now, my regard has changed. What he did in the Basque Country — winning three stages, crushing his opponents, being the best uphill and downhill — has made me think: if he comes, I wouldn’t hold it against him either,” Prudhomme said, according to verified reports from L’Équipe.
Prudhomme emphasized that the final decision rests with Seixas and his team, noting it will be made after the Ardennes classics, where the 19-year-old is set to face Tadej Pogačar in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
