Algeria to Host 15th African Archery Championships in Oran July 2026

The Algerian Federation of Sport Shooting has officially confirmed that Oran will host the 15th African Archery Championships from July 20 to 26, 2026. This announcement, made on April 22, 2026, positions Algeria as the host nation for a major continental event under the auspices of World Archery.

Sixteen African nations are expected to participate, including Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Sudan, Niger, Uganda, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, Libya, Kenya, Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Chad. Nearly 180 athletes and officials will take part in the competition, which will be held at the Mediterranean Village of Bir El Djir in Oran, with archery competitions staged at the stadium within the same complex.

The event underscores Algeria’s growing role in hosting international sports competitions, following its successful organization of the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran. Federation officials emphasized that hosting the championship reflects the country’s commitment to developing archery and sport more broadly across the continent.

For African archers, the championships serve as a critical qualifying pathway toward the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2027 All-Africa Games in Cairo, both of which feed into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The competition will also feature under-21 and under-18 categories for the first time in African archery history, alongside senior and para-archery divisions.
