Live Updates: Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Returns to Pakistan Amid Kremlin Talks, UN Visit by Wadephul, and New Death Sentence Execution

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected in Moscow on Monday for talks with Russian officials, as confirmed by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. The meeting comes amid ongoing regional conflicts and diplomatic efforts to address tensions in the Middle East.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi’s visit was announced ahead of the scheduled discussions. Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kasem Jalali also confirmed the meeting to Iranian state news agency Isna, stating that the talks would focus on efforts to end the Iran conflict.

Prior to his expected arrival in Moscow, Araghchi traveled to Islamabad on Sunday to convey Iran’s conditions for ending the war to Pakistani mediators, as reported by the Tasnim news agency. It remains unclear whether a new round of negotiations with the United States will take place in Pakistan.

Russia and Iran have maintained a strategic alliance, though Moscow has not been prepared to provide military support to Tehran in its current confrontation with the United States. Instead, Tehran has primarily received diplomatic backing from the Kremlin.

The development follows recent accusations from German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who alleged that Russia is using the Iran conflict to divert attention from its invasion of Ukraine. Wadephul claimed Moscow is providing Iran with targeting information, a charge that has added complexity to the diplomatic landscape.

Wadephul, speaking at a G7 meeting in France, stated that Russia appears to be supporting Iran by helping identify potential strike targets. He warned that such a strategy must not succeed and emphasized the growing connection between the Iran conflict and the war in Ukraine.

The Iranian foreign minister’s visit to Moscow underscores the continued diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Moscow, even as regional tensions persist and international efforts to de-escalate the situation face significant challenges.

As the situation evolves, the outcome of Monday’s talks in Moscow could influence broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing hostilities in the region, including potential discussions about Iran’s nuclear program and maritime security in strategic waterways.

Stay tuned for updates as the meeting between Araghchi and Russian officials proceeds.
