Judo Training Wimpassing: Coach Marlene Hunger & Team Success

Budapest, Hungary – Five young judokas from Wimpassing, Austria, recently competed at the prestigious Budapest Cup, gaining valuable international experience against a field of approximately 1,600 athletes from 24 nations. The event, held on April 25th, provided a significant platform for the Austrian team to test their skills and develop their competitive edge.

Liya Yildirim led the Wimpassing contingent, securing a bronze medal in the under-13 weight class (over 57 kg). Yildirim’s performance included a victory and a defeat on her path to the podium, demonstrating her resilience and technical ability. This marks a significant achievement for the young athlete and the Judoclub Wimpassing Sparkasse.

Felix Fischer (-34 kg) also showcased promising form, achieving a win before being narrowly defeated and eliminated from the tournament. Magdalena Klöckl (-36 kg) and Lara Strebinger (-40 kg) competed valiantly but did not secure victories in this event. The Budapest Cup offered a steep learning curve for both athletes, providing insights into areas for improvement.

In the under-18 division, Ilvie Brunner (-70 kg) competed in a new weight class. Brunner displayed strong performances in two closely contested matches, ultimately falling short of victory. Competing in a new weight class often presents unique challenges, and Brunner’s experience will be invaluable as she continues her development.

The team was accompanied by coach Marlene Hunger, who emphasized the importance of the experience gained at the Budapest Cup. “Our athletes were able to gather valuable competition experience and gain important insights from their matches,” Hunger said, highlighting the developmental focus of the trip. The opportunity to compete against a diverse range of opponents is crucial for the growth of these young judokas.

The Judoclub Wimpassing Sparkasse is known for its successful youth program, offering judo training from kindergarten age through to senior levels. The club’s commitment to fostering talent and providing opportunities for international competition is evident in the participation of these athletes at the Budapest Cup. The club’s success is built on a foundation of dedicated coaching and a supportive environment for its members.

This trip to Budapest represents another step in the athletic journeys of these promising judokas. The experience gained will undoubtedly contribute to their continued growth and development as they pursue their goals in the sport. The lessons learned – both on and off the mat – will be instrumental in shaping their future success.

The next scheduled competition for the Judoclub Wimpassing Sparkasse’s youth team is yet to be announced, but the club will continue to provide updates on their official channels. Fans and supporters can follow the team’s progress on their social media pages for the latest news and results.
