Izan Negro Wins Bronze at Iberdrola Promises Grand Prix in Archery – El Bierzo Digital

Young Bercian archer Izan Negro secured the bronze medal in the inaugural Iberdrola Promises Open Air Archery Grand Prix, held in Madrid on April 11–12, 2026. Representing Club de Tiro Ponferrada as the sole cadet-category athlete from his club, Negro delivered a standout performance across two days of competition.

The event marked the start of the outdoor season for junior archers, drawing participants from across Spain. Negro began strongly in the qualification round, shooting 72 arrows to achieve 679 points — the second-highest score of the series. This result earned him a direct passage to the quarterfinals on Sunday morning.

In the quarterfinals, Negro faced Valencian archer Óscar Sánchez. The match remained tightly contested throughout, with Negro prevailing by a single point to advance to the semifinals. There, he encountered another Valencian competitor, Alejandro Martín. The semifinal bout was equally narrow, but Negro lost by a margin of 137–136, sending him to the bronze medal match.

For the third-place playoff, Negro was paired against Aragonese archer Jorge Javier Martínez. After regulation play, both athletes were tied at 141 points each, necessitating a shoot-off. In the decisive arrow, Negro demonstrated superior precision to claim the bronze medal.

Following the podium finish, Club de Tiro Ponferrada acknowledged the support of the Ponferrada City Council, the municipal sports department, and the University of León in enabling Negro’s participation and development.

The Gran Premio Promesas Iberdrola series continues to serve as a key platform for emerging talent in Spanish archery, with this opening event setting the tone for the 2026 outdoor season.

As of now, no official announcements have been made regarding Negro’s upcoming competition schedule. Fans and followers are encouraged to monitor official channels from Club de Tiro Ponferrada and the Royal Spanish Archery Federation for updates on future events.
