Ilia Topuria Confirms Miami Relocation Ahead of UFC White House Event
UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria has confirmed he will relocate from Madrid to Miami for an extended period, citing preparation for his upcoming White House bout and personal reasons including proximity to his daughter.
The Spanish-Georgian fighter made the announcement during an appearance on ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’, stating he plans to live in Miami for “one or two years” to acclimate to the environment and fulfill various commitments in the United States.
“I aim for to obtain used to the rhythm, the climate, everything… And I think I’m going to move, meaning I’m going to live in Miami for the next one or two years. I had to come, I had to come here. I have a lot on my plate, you know,” Topuria told Helwani.
Topuria’s decision to move comes as he prepares for the historic UFC event at the White House on June 14, 2026, where he will defend his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje. The event coincides with the 250th anniversary of American independence and Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
The fighter initially arrived in Miami two months ahead of the fight date to start his training camp, but what was intended as a temporary stay has evolved into a longer-term relocation.
Topuria emphasized that being closer to his daughter, who resides in Miami with her mother, was a significant factor in his decision. He left behind a luxury residence in one of Madrid’s most exclusive neighborhoods, a property valued at up to eight million euros.
The Madrid home featured extensive amenities including a vegetable-surrounded property with a pool, minimalist decor dominated by white tones, a large kitchen with central island and a state-of-the-art gym with dedicated sparring areas.
During his time in Madrid, Topuria shared his residence with several high-profile figures including Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Atlético Madrid forward Ángel Correa, and Spanish musicians Manuel Carrasco, Pablo López, and Melendi.
This marks Topuria’s second major relocation in recent years, having previously moved from Valencia to Madrid to better accommodate his sponsorship obligations and professional commitments.
The UFC confirmed the White House event lineup on March 8, 2026, with Topuria vs. Gaethje as the main attraction. The card will feature six bouts in total as part of the UFC Freedom 250 celebration.
Topuria enters the fight with a perfect 17-0 record in the UFC and has stated his goal is to reach 18-0 with a victory over Gaethje for the unified lightweight title.
The former interim champion Gaethje will challenge Topuria for the undisputed 155-pound title in what promises to be one of the most significant events in UFC history.
As Topuria settles into his new Miami base, all attention turns to the June 14 showdown at the White House, where he aims to defend his title while beginning what could be an extended chapter of his life and career in the United States.
The lightweight champion’s next confirmed checkpoint remains the UFC White House event on June 14, 2026, where he will face Justin Gaethje in the main event.
