Falaise Badminton Club: New President Elected & Financial Success Reported

Falaise, France – The Entente Sportive Falaisienne (ESF) badminton club has appointed Aurélien Maurin as its new president, following the death of longtime leader Gisèle Maurin in January. The election took place Tuesday evening at the Guillaume gymnasium, marking a poignant moment for the club as members honored Maurin’s legacy.

Gisèle Maurin, 59, passed away after a long illness, leaving a significant void in the Falaise badminton community. She had been a driving force within the club for many years, having previously competed in athletics and handball before dedicating herself to badminton. According to reports, Maurin’s passion for the sport extended beyond the local level, taking her to competitions across France and even internationally.

The assembly began with a tribute to Maurin, recognizing her years of service and dedication. “The ordinary general assembly was followed by an extraordinary general assembly since a new president needed to be appointed,” explained Lionel Maurin, as reported by local news outlets. The club’s financial report highlighted a successful year, with an increase in surplus from €2,821 to €5,159, largely due to revenue generated from a recent tournament – nearly €1,800.

The ESF badminton club as well reported strong athletic performance, with two bronze medals secured at the French Veterans Championships and multiple podium finishes at the Normandy Championships. This success underscores the club’s commitment to competitive excellence at all levels.

Alongside the presidential election, the club announced the addition of three new members to its administrative committee: Damien Blanchart, Flavie Faget, and Willy Seguin. These additions will support the creation of thematic commissions focused on leisure activities, competitions, youth development, tournament organization, refereeing, and interclub relations. This restructuring aims to broaden the club’s reach and enhance its offerings to members.

The newly elected bureau consists of Aurélien Maurin as president, Florian Mouchel as vice-president, Alexandre Riou as second vice-president, Annie Rivière as secretary, and Lionel Maurin as treasurer. Rounding out the committee are Hanz Bomal, Pol Founier, Mickael Legrives, François Lhermenier (who will be leaving mid-year), and Claire Savary-Gagez.

Looking ahead, the club plans to use received donations to purchase new equipment for its youth programs and to welcome a service civique volunteer to assist with club operations. This investment in youth development and community engagement demonstrates the ESF badminton club’s commitment to its future.

The transition comes at a crucial time for the club, as it seeks to build on its recent successes and continue to foster a thriving badminton community in Falaise. Aurélien Maurin will undoubtedly face the challenge of filling the shoes of his predecessor, but the club’s strong foundation and dedicated membership position it well for continued growth and achievement.

The ESF badminton club’s next scheduled event is a youth training session on April 15th, followed by a friendly tournament on April 22nd. Further details can be found on the club’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/falaisebadminton/. Fans and supporters are encouraged to follow the club’s progress and participate in upcoming events.
