Russian drone and missile strikes on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro killed at least five people and wounded 34, local authorities said Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The attack, which lasted more than 12 hours according to Ukrainian officials, targeted residential areas in the southeastern city, with a four-storey apartment building partially destroyed in the overnight barrage.
State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that at least 14 people, including one child, were injured as a result of the strike, while rescue workers continued to search for survivors under rubble throughout Saturday morning.
Photographs released by Ukrainian authorities showed excavators and rescue crews clearing debris from the damaged residential building, with smoke rising from the site as emergency personnel worked to locate anyone still trapped.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack lasted “practically all night” and criticized Russian tactics, stating that strike drones, cruise missiles and ballistic weapons were used against ordinary infrastructure in cities.
According to BBC News, at least seven people were killed in Russian strikes across Ukraine overnight, with five of those deaths occurring in Dnipro where officials confirmed an apartment building was hit.
The attack was part of a larger Russian offensive that also targeted the northern city of Chernihiv, where two people were killed, as well as Odesa and Kharkiv, while Ukrainian authorities reported repelling the vast majority of more than 600 Russian drones launched during the assault.
In neighboring Russia, Ukrainian drone strikes caused injuries in Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk, with six people hurt when a building was struck in Yekaterinburg and drones targeting an industrial facility intercepted in Chelyabinsk.
British jets were scrambled from Romania during the heavy attack when Russian drones were detected near the border, though the UK Ministry of Defence rejected reports that any drones were shot down.
Rescue operations continued into Saturday afternoon as officials warned that several people could still be trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings in Dnipro.
The strikes represent one of the largest Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities in several days, underscoring the ongoing intensity of the conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
As of Saturday evening, Ukrainian officials had not provided an updated casualty count, with search and rescue efforts still underway in the affected neighborhoods of Dnipro.
