Dominican Archers Compete in the Grand Prix of the Americas in El Salvador

SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic’s senior archery team is competing in the Grand Prix de las Américas in El Salvador this week as part of its preparation for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be hosted in Santo Domingo.

According to José Miguel Robiou, president of the Dominican Archery Federation (Fedota), the delegation will remain in El Salvador until April 19, 2026, for the tournament held at the Jorge Jiménez Archery Field.

The event, which runs from April 16 to 19, 2026, features more than 100 archers from 26 countries and serves as the second qualifier for the Santo Domingo 2026 Games while awarding world ranking points.

Prior to traveling to El Salvador, the team participated in the Copa Mella archery competition in Santiago, Dominican Republic, across multiple categories.

The Dominican compound bow team consists of París Goico De Lara, Rubén Jiménez Mustafá, Mario Berges Chez, Lucía Cordero Mateo, Carmen Espinal Encarnación, and Ysmarlin Ramos Paulino.

In the recurve bow discipline, the preparation squad includes Luis Miguel Jáquez Valdez, Reynaldo Zorrilla Basilio, Eric Fatule Báez, Camila Pérez Vizcaíno, Santa Ortiz Carty, and Cynthia González Bencosme.

Athletes are accompanied by coaches Manuel Bartumeu Gómez and Enrique Barcón Quiñones, along with officials José Miguel Robiou, María Del Pilar Souza, and psychologist Rafael Almonte Matías.

The team’s participation was made possible through support from the Dominican Ministry of Sport, which provided government resources for the trip.

The Grand Prix de las Américas is a key event in the continental archery calendar, offering athletes crucial international competition experience ahead of regional multi-sport events.

El Salvador’s hosting of the tournament highlights its growing role in promoting archery development across the Americas.

For the Dominican Republic, strong performances at such events are vital for building momentum and refining strategies as they aim to medal on home soil at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The archery competition at the Santo Domingo 2026 Games will grab place at a yet-to-be-finalized venue within the host city.

As the team continues its preparatory phase, results from the Grand Prix will help inform final selections and training focus in the months leading up to the Games.

Fans can follow updates through the Dominican Olympic Committee’s official channels and the World Archery Federation’s competition platform.

The next major checkpoint for the team will be their continued preparation schedule, with additional international competitions expected before the Santo Domingo 2026 Games begin.
