Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) athletes Fernando Castellanos Lara and Andrea Ximena Pérez Martínez secured gold and silver medals, respectively, at the Las Vegas Shoot 2026, an international indoor archery competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Castellanos Lara, a law student at BUAP, won the gold medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 3 category. He also received special recognition for achieving the highest ranking among Mexican competitors in his division.
Pérez Martínez, a political science student at BUAP, earned the silver medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 11 category. Both athletes competed against more than 4,000 archers from 70 countries in the event, which is part of the Indoor Archery World Series and marked its 60th edition.
The competition took place on April 18, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, under indoor conditions as part of the Las Vegas Shoot tournament series.
In post-competition interviews, both athletes credited BUAP’s institutional support as essential to their success. Pérez Martínez highlighted access to multidisciplinary teams including psychology, nutrition, sports medicine, gym facilities, and physiotherapy services provided by the university.
She stated: “In my athletic life, BUAP provides me with support through the multidisciplinary teams we have access to, whether it’s the psychology team, nutrition team, sports clinic, gym, and physiotherapists. All are a great support, and thanks to them we can achieve these kinds of results.”
Castellanos Lara emphasized the university’s role in his dual development as an athlete and student, saying: “BUAP is the most relevant thing in my life; it gave me the opportunity to be an athlete. The university is immersed in all aspects of my daily life, both in sports and academics. I feel very grateful for life and the university.”
The Indoor Archery World Series-sanctioned event brought together elite competitors in a high-level international setting, with BUAP’s representatives standing out on the podium amid strong global participation.
Their performance adds to BUAP’s growing reputation in international university sports, particularly in archery, where institutional backing has enabled student-athletes to compete and succeed at prestigious global events.
As of now, there are no officially announced upcoming competitions for either athlete in verified sources. Readers are encouraged to follow BUAP’s athletic department updates for future event participation and results.
