Students from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) achieved remarkable success at the Las Vegas Shoot, an international indoor archery competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fernando Castellanos Lara, a law student, secured the gold medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 3 category, while Andrea Ximena Pérez Martínez, a political science student, earned the silver medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 11 category.
The Las Vegas Shoot, now in its 60th edition, brought together over 4,000 archers from 70 countries, solidifying its status as one of the premier events in the Indoor Archery World Series circuit. Castellanos not only won gold but also received special recognition as the highest-ranked Mexican archer in his division. Pérez’s silver medal marked a significant achievement in her first international competition.
Both athletes credited BUAP’s comprehensive support system for their success, highlighting the university’s multidisciplinary teams including psychology, nutrition, sports medicine, gym facilities, and physiotherapy services. Castellanos emphasized how the university’s support was crucial for his development as both an athlete and a student, while Pérez noted the importance of the integrated support teams in achieving their results.
The competition, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, is recognized as a key event for international archery rankings, allowing athletes to measure their performance against elite competitors in a highly competitive environment that demands precision, concentration, and mental discipline.
As the Indoor Archery World Series continues, BUAP’s archers have set a high standard for Mexican representation in the sport, demonstrating the university’s commitment to fostering excellence in both academic and athletic pursuits.
