Berk Uğurlu: Beşiktaş Aims for EuroCup Glory Against JL Bourg
With the EuroCup final series set to commence, Beşiktaş guard Berk Uğurlu emphasized the team’s collective determination to bring the trophy to Turkey, stating that motivation comes naturally from the club’s deep desire for the championship.
Speaking to Demirören Haber Ajansı (DHA) ahead of the first leg against French side JL Bourg Basket, Uğurlu highlighted the challenge posed by their opponents, noting JL Bourg’s current form and athletic style of play.
“First of all, I believe that in the final series, our opponents are in good form, and compared to the two games we played against them, they are playing much faster and more athletic,” Uğurlu said, as reported by DHA.
He stressed that defense will be a critical factor in determining the outcome of the series, adding that the team which makes fewer errors and shows greater defensive commitment will likely prevail.
“Defense will be the key deciding factor. Because I think the team that defends well will win this series. Both teams have high talent levels. As I said, the team that makes fewer mistakes and is more eager in defense will win this series,” Uğurlu stated.
Uğurlu similarly underscored Beşiktaş’s identity as a defensively oriented team, explaining that their approach extends beyond offense to include a strong, aggressive defensive mindset.
“Especially besides offense, we are a team that plays highly tough defensively. Our coach always tells us to be a bit more aggressive in defense in the first game, not to give them uncomplicated shots. Being aggressive in defense is very important for us,” he said.
Regarding motivation, Uğurlu noted that the team’s drive is already high due to the shared ambition within the club, suggesting that external motivation is less necessary at this stage.
“Since we have reached the final series, motivation is not really needed anymore because everyone at Beşiktaş is longing for this trophy. We wish to bring this trophy to our country. Our motivation must be at its highest every second,” Uğurlu said.
The first leg of the EuroCup final series between Beşiktaş and JL Bourg is scheduled to take place at Beşiktaş’s home arena, with tip-off set for 8:00 PM local time.
