2026 Asian Judo Championships Open in Ordos with China Securing Three Bronze Medals on Day One
The 2026 Asian Judo Championships officially opened on April 16, 2026, at the Ordos Sports Development Center Sports Hall in Inner Mongolia, China, drawing 288 athletes, coaches, and 77 officials from 21 Asian nations, and regions.
The opening ceremony began at 3:20 p.m. Local time with a vibrant light show followed by the traditional Mongolian dance performance “Warm Ordos,” setting an energetic tone for the competition that will run through April 19.
Competition commenced immediately after the ceremony, featuring the first day’s events in the men’s 60kg and 66kg divisions, and women’s 48kg and 52kg categories.
In the women’s 48kg final, Mongolia’s JAMSRAN Anudari claimed the gold medal, while her compatriot MYAGMARSUREN Nandin-Erdene won the women’s 52kg title.
Bahrain’s POLTORATSKII Ruslan secured gold in the men’s 60kg division, and Tajikistan’s EMOMALI Nurali took top honors in the men’s 66kg category.
For the host nation, China’s Hu Xianran and Zhuang Wenna shared the bronze medal in the women’s 48kg event, and Xu Ziyang earned bronze in the men’s 66kg division, giving the Chinese team three bronze medals on the opening day.
The Asian Judo Championships, organized by the Asian Judo Union, represent the continent’s premier judo competition and have been held since 1966, serving as a key platform for athletic exchange and development across Asia.
This edition marks the second time the championships have been hosted in China, following the previous edition held in the country.
Competition will continue through April 19, with additional weight categories and team events scheduled for the remaining days.
