Viola Basketball: Trust President on Team Support, Future Plans & Upcoming Games (Corato & Ragusa)

REGGIO CALABRIA – The Pallacanestro Viola fanbase is demonstrating unwavering support as the team navigates a crucial stretch of the Serie B Interregionale season. Maurizio Marino, president of the Supporters Trust Viola, recently detailed the group’s growing influence and commitment to the club, emphasizing a strong connection between the team and its dedicated followers. The Supporters Trust, now boasting over 100 members, is playing a key role in bolstering both on-court performance and the overall stability of the Redel-sponsored team.

Marino’s comments came during an appearance on “Tiro da 4,” a program broadcast on Reggiotv and hosted by Giovanni Mafrici. He addressed the team’s recent performance, including a challenging road game in Milazzo, and looked ahead to upcoming fixtures, highlighting the importance of fan support during this pivotal stage of the regular season.

Despite a recent setback in Milazzo, the enthusiasm of the Viola faithful remains undiminished. “I was pleased because when we went to Milazzo, the bus filled up immediately,” Marino explained. “I had to turn down many requests, unfortunately, which I regretted for the fans who wanted to come with us, but the bus was already full for days.” He acknowledged the game itself presented challenges, noting a slow start and a particularly difficult third quarter contributed to the loss. “These are the paradoxes of sport and basketball,” he added.

The situation surrounding Milazzo, a team facing internal difficulties and recently transferring players Marangon to Viola and Lalić to Angri, adds another layer of complexity to the league landscape. Marino cautioned that success requires unified effort. “If everyone doesn’t row in the same direction, I see it being very difficult, and it won’t be simple. We all know that. It’s a challenging formula.”

Marino underscored the importance of building momentum towards the playoffs. “With the experience of the last 2-3 years with this formula, which has remained almost unchanged, we’ve seen that the important thing is to arrive ready for the playoffs. You can finish first and have the home-court advantage, but if you encounter the eighth-placed team in good form, you can have problems. It’s a very complex formula.”

The Supporters Trust itself has seen consistent growth, reaching and maintaining a membership of around 100 individuals annually. Marino explained the Trust’s initial goal was to attract investors interested in acquiring the team, and that objective has been achieved. “The Trust is important because it’s a multiplier,” he stated.

Currently, the Pallacanestro Viola benefits from solid ownership, with MyEnergy and Redel Reggio Calabria providing significant financial backing. Marino expressed confidence in the current leadership, contrasting it favorably with past ownership groups. “Now we are in safe hands, with MyEnergy behind us. This is often underestimated. We have both MyEnergy and Redel, which are two serious companies, businesses that generate millions in revenue, and they strongly believe in this project. They are not the entrepreneurs of the past who led us to bankruptcies and various issues. The foundations are there.”

The Supporters Trust prioritizes collaboration and unity. “We must all row in the same direction. It’s normal that there are disagreements,” Marino acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of a shared vision.

Looking ahead, the team’s schedule is packed with important games. The Viola will host Corato on Thursday evening at the PalaCalafiore, followed by a road trip to Ragusa on Sunday. “It’s time to get back on track immediately, to embrace the public of Reggio. Thursday at 8:30 PM we have this game with Corato at home which is important, and other opponents also have manageable games.”

The Supporters Trust is actively organizing support for the away game in Ragusa, chartering a bus to ensure the team isn’t without its fans. “Next Sunday we will play in Ragusa. We have already arranged a bus so as not to leave the boys alone. Even if the trip will be long, we will not miss our support.”

Marino concluded with a powerful statement about the Trust’s unwavering commitment: “The Supporters Trust is and always will be on the side of the fan, the beating heart, at the center of the project, all together to support Pallacanestro Viola to achieve great goals and to never, ever relive what happened back in 2019.”

The Pallacanestro Viola, currently competing in Serie B Interregionale, is aiming for promotion. The team is coached by Giulio Cadeo, with Sebastiano D’Agostino and Stefano Scarpa serving as assistant coaches. Carmelo Laganà is the team president, and Fortunato Vita holds the position of General Manager. The team plays its home games at the PalaCalafiore in Reggio Calabria. The 2025-2026 season marks the team’s seventh since its refoundation and its third in the Serie B Interregionale league. Gecosport provides the team’s technical apparel, while Erreà remains the official supplier.

Next up for Pallacanestro Viola is a home game against Corato on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 8:30 PM local time (UTC+1). Following that, the team will travel to Ragusa for a game on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Fans interested in supporting the team can identify more information and updates on the official Pallacanestro Viola website and Facebook page.
