Ung Thien, Vietnam – A vibrant atmosphere filled the community of Ung Thien this week as local teams competed in a series of sporting events celebrating both the successful conclusion of recent elections and the 80th anniversary of Vietnamese Sports Day. The tournament, which concluded on March 21, 2026, saw participation from over 20 teams across badminton and table tennis, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.
The event served a dual purpose: commemorating the completion of the 16th National Assembly elections and the elections of representatives to the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term and honoring the 80th anniversary of Traditional Day of Vietnamese Sports and Physical Training, which falls on March 27th. The celebrations underscore the importance placed on physical activity and community engagement within the region.
Competitions were held in four distinct categories: men’s doubles badminton (for players aged 41 and over), men’s doubles badminton (under 40), women’s doubles badminton, and table tennis. The tournament provided a platform for athletes of all ages and skill levels to showcase their talents and contribute to the lively community atmosphere.
Pham Van Thao, vice-chairman of the Ung Thien People’s Committee, emphasized the event’s broader significance. “The sports competition is a practical activity aimed at promoting the movement ‘All people practice physical training following the example of great President Ho Chi Minh,’ creating a healthy environment, strengthening exchange, and consolidating solidarity between villages and units in the area, thereby contributing to building a more developed cultural life at the local level,” he stated.
Following a spirited competition, the organizing committee awarded prizes to the top performers in each category. In the men’s doubles badminton competition for players over 41, first place went to Dong Vu village, second place to the Economic Department of the commune, and third place was shared by Quang Nguyen village and Quang Phu Cau High School.
The under-40 men’s doubles badminton saw Phu Yen village seize first place, followed by Cau Bau village in second, and a tie for third between Tien village and Vien Ngoai village. The women’s doubles badminton competition was won by Phu Yen village, with Quang Nguyen village securing second place and Dao Tu and Dong Vu villages sharing third.
In the table tennis competition, Vien Noi Primary School claimed the top spot, followed by Hoa Son Primary School in second, with Quang Nguyen village and Truong Thinh High School sharing third place. The diverse range of participating teams – from villages to schools and government departments – highlights the broad appeal of the event and its success in bringing the community together.
The tournament concluded in a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere, contributing to the promotion of mass sports, the improvement of health, the creation of a vibrant competitive spirit, and collaboration for the further development of Ung Thien commune. The event served as a reminder of the power of sport to unite communities and foster a sense of shared purpose.
