Tirreno Adriatica Bike Race: Umbria Road Closures & Traffic Updates – March 11th

The Tirreno-Adriatico cycling race will traverse the Umbria region of Italy tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, leading to temporary traffic restrictions on roads managed by Anas, as outlined in ordinances from the Prefectures of Perugia and Terni. Motorists traveling in the area should plan for significant delays and consider alternate routes.

Road Closures Along the Route

Between 10:00 and 12:00 local time (UTC+1), the exit ramps of the Castiglione del Lago interchange on the Perugia-Bettolle connection will be closed in both directions to accommodate the race. This closure is expected to impact traffic flow significantly, particularly for those accessing or exiting the highway at this point.

a section of the SS71 “Umbro Casentinese Romagnola” will be completely closed, spanning from the Castiglione del Lago interchange (regional border) to the roundabout connecting with Via Romea. This closure will affect regional travel and require drivers to find alternative routes around the affected area.

Extensive Closures on the SS3bis “Tiberina” (E45)

More extensive closures are planned for the SS3bis “Tiberina” (E45) between 11:00 and 14:00 local time (UTC+1). Several exit ramps will be temporarily shut down to facilitate the safe passage of the cyclists. These include:

  • Marsciano/Collepepe interchange: Both exit ramps will be closed.
  • Collazzone interchange: The exit ramp for traffic heading towards Cesena will be closed.
  • Todi/Orvieto interchange: Both exit ramps will be closed.

Further closures will impact traffic near Orvieto. The SS448 “di Baschi” will be closed in the direction of the E45 interchange for traffic originating from Orvieto. The Collevalenza interchange will notice the closure of the connecting stretch to SP420, whereas both exit ramps at the Massa Martana interchange will be closed. The Acquasparta interchange will have its connecting stretch to SP113 closed, though the ramps themselves will remain open.

Authorities note that while ramps between Marsciano and Acquasparta will generally remain open, temporary limitations on secondary roads connecting to the highway are possible. Drivers should exercise caution and be prepared for potential delays on these access roads.

Additional Closures on SS675 and SS79bis

Between 12:30 and 14:30 local time (UTC+1), the exit ramps of the “Terni Ovest” interchange on the SS675 “Umbro Laziale” will be closed in both directions. Access to the SS79bis (Terni-Rieti) will be prohibited for traffic coming from SP62 via the Piediluco interchange.

Race Route Through Marsciano

The race will enter the municipality of Marsciano from the hamlet of Castiglione della Valle, coming from Mugnano along Provincial Road 315. It will then proceed through Spina to Cerqueto (first section of Provincial Road 340) and continue along Regional Road 317 to reach Marsciano. Within Marsciano, the route will follow Via dei Mille, Via dei Partigiani, Via Carlo Faina, and Viale Fratelli Briziarelli before continuing on Provincial Road 375/4 (the Cerro direct route) towards Collepepe in the municipality of Collazzone.

These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the cyclists and race personnel. While the Tirreno-Adriatico is a prestigious event, it will undoubtedly cause disruption for local traffic. Travelers are strongly advised to check road conditions before embarking on journeys in the Umbria region on Wednesday, March 11th, and to allow for extra travel time.
