Thuong Phuc Commune, Vietnam – A recent surge in athletic activity is captivating students and residents alike, highlighted by a school sports tournament and ongoing efforts to promote physical fitness throughout the community. The initiatives underscore a long-term commitment to sports and wellness within the region, with participation rates steadily climbing.

On March 28th, the opening ceremony for the 2025/26 school sports tournament took place in Thuong Phuc Commune, bringing together student-athletes from primary, secondary, and high schools. The competition features a diverse range of sports, including athletics, badminton, table tennis, and traditional martial arts. The event aims to spread the message of physical activity, echoing the national motto: “All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh.”

The tournament isn’t happening in a vacuum. Thuong Phuc has consistently prioritized broad-based sports and physical activity. Currently, 43.4% of the commune’s residents engage in regular exercise, and 31.3% of families actively participate in sports. This commitment to physical activity was further demonstrated on March 22nd, when the People’s Committee of Thuong Phuc Commune organized the 2026 Olympic Run for Public Health. This event also served as the launch of the 51st Hanoi Fresh Year’s Open Run – For Peace, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Sports and Physical Education ngành (March 27th, 1946 – March 27th, 2026). Nguyen Duc Thinh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thuong Phuc Commune, emphasized the ongoing focus on developing mass sports and physical education within the community.

The range of sports cultivated in Thuong Phuc is extensive, encompassing health exercises, football (soccer), volleyball, badminton, table tennis, running, cycling, and various martial arts. The initiatives are designed not only to improve the physical health of residents but also to foster a civilized lifestyle and strengthen community bonds.
