MIAMI, FL – Wednesday, March 25, 2026 – Top contenders Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev were pushed to their limits Tuesday at the Miami Open, both needing to win two tiebreakers to secure their spots in the quarterfinals. The hard-fought victories demonstrate the rising level of competition as the tournament progresses.
The No. 2 seeded Sinner defeated American Michael Mmoh, ranked 40th in the world, 7-5, 7-6(4). This victory marked Sinner’s 14th consecutive Masters 1000 match won in straight sets. He had previously surpassed Novak Djokovic’s streak of 12 straight sets to claim the record.
Sinner will face No. 19 seed Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. Tiafoe earlier defeated defending champion Holger Rune 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Sinner holds a 4-1 head-to-head advantage over Tiafoe. A win would move Sinner closer to completing the “Sunshine Double,” having already claimed the title at Indian Wells last week.
Lehecka, Paul, and Fils Advance to Quarterfinals
No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev also faced a stern test from Frenchman Quentin Halys, ultimately prevailing 7-6(4), 7-6(1) to reach the quarterfinals, where he will face Argentina’s No. 18 seed Tomás Martín Etcheverry, who defeated another Frenchman, Arthur Fils, 2-0.
Czech player Lehecka upset No. 6 seed Fritz 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2 and will face Spain’s Jaume Munar, who defeated Jiri Lehecka 2-1. Americans Tommy Paul and Frenchman Fils also secured their places in the final eight.

Vondrousova to Face Gauff in Semifinals
In women’s quarterfinal action, No. 13 seed Marketa Vondrousova defeated Canadian rising star Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 7-6(5) to reach her first Miami semifinal. Vondrousova has now defeated Fernandez in consecutive matches, following a win in Doha.
Vondrousova will face No. 4 seed Coco Gauff in the semifinals. Gauff overcame Switzerland’s No. 12 seed Belinda Bencic 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to reach the final four in Miami for the first time.
The remaining women’s quarterfinals will be held tomorrow, featuring No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek against Anastasia Potapova and Elena Rybakina against Jessica Pegula.
