SGA Breaks Record, Giannis Injury & More: NBA Highlights & Scores

Gilgeous-Alexander Extends Scoring Streak as Thunder Win Eighth Straight

Oklahoma City continues its impressive run, while concerns mount in Milwaukee following an injury to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Shai Gilgeous-Alexander express rolls on. The Oklahoma City Thunder secured their eighth consecutive victory on Sunday, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-103, and Gilgeous-Alexander continued to deliver at an elite level. More significantly, he extended his remarkable streak of games with at least 20 points to 128, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s previous record of 126. It wasn’t a comfortable night for the scoring record, however; Gilgeous-Alexander needed a late fourth-quarter push, securing the milestone with a clutch free throw under a roaring crowd chanting “M-V-P!”

Oklahoma City’s success wasn’t solely reliant on Gilgeous-Alexander’s scoring. The Thunder demonstrated impressive ball security, forcing 22 turnovers from the Timberwolves while committing only seven themselves. Isaiah Hartenstein played a key role as a facilitator, showcasing creative passing – including a highlight-reel assist through the legs – to set up Jared McCain for crucial points. With this win, the Thunder improve to a league-best 53-15, solidifying their position atop the Western Conference standings.

Mavericks Bounce Back, Cavaliers Welcome Strus

In Dallas, the Mavericks responded emphatically after a lopsided 33-point loss earlier in the week. Led by a dominant performance from Cooper Flagg, who registered 27 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds, Dallas ended a seven-game losing streak against the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was a much-needed victory for the Mavericks, who had only won two of their previous eleven games.

Cleveland did receive a boost with the return of Max Strus, who made his season debut after a 67-game absence due to a foot injury, contributing 24 points. However, 16 turnovers proved costly for the Cavaliers, allowing Dallas to capitalize on the mistakes and take control in the third quarter. Yale rookie John Poulakidas also provided a spark off the bench with 10 points.

Bucks Win, But Antetokounmpo Suffers Injury

The Milwaukee Bucks secured a home victory, but the win was tempered by a concerning injury to Giannis Antetokounmpo. The “Greek Freak” landed awkwardly after a dunk in the third quarter and, despite briefly continuing, was forced to leave the game with a knee issue. Coach Doc Rivers suspects a strain, but Antetokounmpo remained cautiously optimistic post-game, hoping to avoid a prolonged absence. He has already missed 31 games this season.

In Antetokounmpo’s absence, Bobby Portis stepped up with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Rollins added 20 points off the bench. Indiana struggled to handle the Bucks’ offensive pressure, committing 18 turnovers despite 32 points from Aaron Nesmith.

Raptors Roll, 76ers Find New Heroes

Brandon Ingram led the Toronto Raptors to their second consecutive win with a stellar 34-point performance, solidifying their sixth-place position in the Eastern Conference. RJ Barrett added 27 points, and Jakob Pöltl dominated the boards with 21 points and 18 rebounds.

The Detroit Pistons started strong, shooting nearly 65% from the field in the first half, but their offense faltered after halftime, shooting just 26.9% in the third quarter. Cade Cunningham’s 33 points weren’t enough to overcome Toronto’s defensive intensity.

Without Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the Philadelphia 76ers needed contributions from unexpected sources, and Quentin Grimes delivered. He scored a season-high 31 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, almost single-handedly carrying Philadelphia to victory. Rookies Justin Edwards and VJ Edgecombe also stepped up with crucial baskets down the stretch.

Trail Blazers Fall, Knicks Rally, Warriors Battle

The Portland Trail Blazers, despite dominating the boards with 15 rebounds from Donovan Clingan, struggled with their outside shooting, making only 17 of 53 three-point attempts. Deni Avdija scored 25 points, but Philadelphia closed the game with a steal and a dunk from Edwards.

The New York Knicks overcame a 21-point deficit at Madison Square Garden, thanks to Jalen Brunson’s leadership. He finished with 30 points and 9 assists, leading the team back into the game and securing a narrow victory.

Golden State played without Stephen Curry (knee), Draymond Green, and several other key players, but place up a fight. Brandin Podziemski (25 points) and rookie Quentin Post (22 points) led the Warriors to a surprising first-half lead, but ultimately lacked the experience to close out the game against the Knicks.

DeRozan Dominates, Jazz Fall Short

DeMar DeRozan had a season-best performance with 41 points and 11 assists, leading the Chicago Bulls to a win over the Utah Jazz. It marked the 417th time in his career he’s scored at least 20 points while shooting over 50%, showcasing his remarkable consistency.

Despite a valiant effort from Cody Williams, who scored 34 points, the Utah Jazz, playing with only nine available players, couldn’t overcome Sacramento’s late-game composure. DeRozan sealed the victory with clutch free throws.

The Thunder will look to continue their winning streak on Wednesday when they face the Denver Nuggets. The Bucks will monitor Antetokounmpo’s condition closely ahead of their next game against the Miami Heat.
