Rute, Spain – The Pabellón Gregorio Piedra played host to the first Andalusian Territorial Ranking (TTR) badminton tournament of the year this past Saturday, March 7th, welcoming 26 clubs from across the region for a full day of competition in the under-15 and under-19 age categories. The event, organized by Club Deportivo Volante Rute, saw over 130 matches played throughout a twelve-hour period.
The tournament served as a crucial stepping stone for young athletes aiming to improve their national ranking and prepare for upcoming international competitions. According to Club Deportivo Volante Rute coach Diego Arenas, the event unfolded as planned, providing valuable experience for players across all participating clubs, including the host club and Club Bádminton Rute.

For the local clubs, the TTR served as vital preparation for larger national and international events, including masters competitions and tournaments on the European circuit. Arenas emphasized the importance of these events for accumulating ranking points and gaining experience before potential trips to Belgium and Hungary later this year. The club aims to continue its growth within the European badminton scene, providing opportunities for young players like his daughter, Sara Arenas, to advance their careers.
Rafael Lloreda, Vice President of Club Bádminton Rute, echoed this sentiment, noting that the tournament allows younger players to test themselves in higher categories, gaining valuable “match practice” and assessing their competitive level. The event provided a platform for development and a chance to measure progress against peers.
The under-15 category saw a particularly strong performance from Club Bádminton Rute. Pablo Lloreda secured two gold medals, triumphing in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles (partnering with Blanca Porras). Porras also claimed the individual women’s title. Fernando Pérez added another gold for the club in men’s doubles, whereas Pablo Córdoba earned a silver in doubles and a bronze in the individual event.
Club Deportivo Volante Rute focused its efforts on the under-19 category, finishing with two gold medals and three fifth-place finishes. Sara Arenas was dominant in the individual competition, winning without dropping a single set throughout the tournament. She and her brother, Diego Arenas, also secured the gold in mixed doubles, demonstrating their experience in closely contested finals.
This successful TTR event in Rute underscores the growing strength of badminton in the Andalusia region and provides a vital development pathway for young Spanish athletes. The competition not only showcased talent but also highlighted the dedication of the clubs and coaches involved in nurturing the next generation of badminton stars.
The next steps for many of these athletes will involve continued training and preparation for upcoming national and international tournaments, with the goal of representing Spain on the world stage. Fans can follow the progress of Club Deportivo Volante Rute and Club Bádminton Rute through their respective websites and social media channels for updates on their athletes’ performances and future events.
