Rīga, Latvia – March 11, 2026 – The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) volleyball programs enjoyed a remarkably successful Baltic League tournament, securing both silver and bronze medals in recent competition. The RSU men’s team, competing as Robežsardze/RSU, earned the silver medal on March 8th in the men’s Baltic Volleyball League, while the RSU women’s team claimed the bronze on March 1st in the Baltic Women’s Volleyball League.
RSU Men’s Team Secures Silver After Dramatic Final
On March 8th, in the Elme Messer Baltic League final, Robežsardze/RSU battled to a thrilling five-set match against Pärnu of Estonia, ultimately falling short with a 2-3 scoreline (21:25, 19:25, 25:22, 27:25, 14:16). The intense contest went down to the wire in the decisive fifth set, with the home team, Pärnu, ultimately proving slightly more successful.
Team head coach Raimonds Vilde emphasized after the match that the team had exceeded expectations this season. “I am proud of the guys and how they played in the final games. If someone had told me before the season that we would be second in the Baltic League, I would have laughed heartily. We have done what was not expected of us and provided a surprise, but the season is not over yet,” Vilde said. The coach noted that after a difficult start to the match, the team managed to stabilize their serve reception and improve their attack, allowing them to return to the game and push the final to a dramatic fifth set.
RSU Women’s Team Claims Baltic League Bronze
On March 1st, in the Baltic Women’s Volleyball League third-place match, the RSU women’s team defeated Rae Spordikool/Viaston of Estonia with a 3-1 score (27:29, 25:19, 25:23, 25:23), securing the bronze medals. In the semi-final, the RSU volleyball players lost in five sets to Tartu University/Bigbank, who later competed in the final.
The success of both RSU teams demonstrates the ability of university volleyball players to compete with the strongest teams in the Baltic region and contend for medals in high-level tournaments.
