Pujada als Àngels Girona: Nova data (12 d’abril) i reobertura d’inscripcions

GIRONA, Spain – The 62nd edition of the Pujada a Peu als Àngels, a beloved annual foot race in Girona, has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 12th, organizers announced. The original date of March 15th was postponed due to severe weather conditions and strong winds that compromised participant safety. The decision follows a period of significant disruption in the region, with approximately 70 trees felled by the recent storm, according to local reports.

The GEiEG, the organizing body for the event, has reopened registration to provide a second opportunity for those who were unable to secure a spot before the postponement. Available places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until they are filled.

Participants who were already registered for the March 15th date will automatically have their places reserved for the April 12th race. Yet, runners will need to collect a new race bib, as the original bibs have been invalidated. Bib collection will take place on April 9th and 10th, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, at the GEiEG facilities in Palau.

Those who are unable to participate on the new date can request a full refund of their registration fee. The deadline for refund requests is March 27th. To process a refund, participants should email activitats.socials@geieg.cat, providing their full name, national ID number (DNI), and registration locator.

The GEiEG coordinated with local institutions and security forces to find a new date that would allow the race to proceed safely. The Pujada a Peu als Àngels, which dates back to 1964, is a cornerstone event on the Girona sporting calendar, attracting hundreds of runners each year across its competitive, popular, and inclusive categories.

The race route, approximately 9.1 kilometers (5.6 miles) in length, begins at the church of Sant Pere de Galligants in the ancient town of Girona and ascends to the Santuari de Als Àngels. The course passes by the Font del Bisbe (Bishop’s Fountain), the Casa de les Figues, and the challenging ascent known as ‘Matahomes’. The total elevation gain is 485 meters (approximately 1,591 feet).

The event offers different participation options. The competitive category (Modalitat A) includes chip timing for accurate results and rankings, with registration fees of €5 for GEiEG members and €12 for non-members. The popular category (Modalitat B) is a non-competitive walk/run with a bib but no chip timing, also priced at €5 for members and €12 for non-members. An inclusive category is offered free of charge.

A portion of the registration fees will be donated to a charitable cause, details of which have not been specified. Following the race, a traditional mass will be held at 12:00 PM, followed by a performance from the GEiEG choir at 12:30 PM.

For those participating in the competitive category, a chip embedded in the race bib will track their time. Participants in the popular category will not be eligible for overall prizes but will still receive a bib. The race also features an inclusive category, designed to accommodate participants with disabilities.

The race organizers have detailed the event schedule: bib and welcome pack distribution for those who pre-registered will occur on April 9th and 10th at the GEiEG facilities in Palau. On race day, April 12th, participants will gather at Plaça dels Jurats from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM before the 9:00 AM start.

The Pujada a Peu als Àngels is more than just a race; it’s a tradition deeply rooted in the Girona community. The event’s enduring popularity speaks to the region’s passion for running and its commitment to inclusivity, offering options for runners of all abilities.

The next key date for participants is the bib collection period, April 9th and 10th. Runners are reminded to bring appropriate identification to collect their new bibs. Further updates and information can be found on the GEiEG website and through their official communication channels.
