The result raises serious questions about PSG’s form heading into a crucial Champions League tie against Chelsea next week.

Monaco’s performance was a masterclass in tactical execution, exploiting vulnerabilities that have become increasingly apparent in Luis Enrique’s side. Maghnes Akliouche and Aleksandr Golovin position the visitors ahead, with Folarin Balogun sealing the win after Bradley Barcola had briefly offered PSG a glimmer of hope. Early Pressure, Monaco’s Breakthrough

In the 27th minute, Monaco capitalized on a defensive lapse. Warren Zaïre-Emery lost possession in the penalty area, allowing Balogun to lay the ball off for Akliouche to finish clinically from close range. PSG Struggles to Respond

Barcola’s volley, which deflected in off Jordan Teze, briefly ignited hopes of a comeback for PSG. Yet, Monaco quickly extinguished those hopes. Defensive Concerns Loom Large

The team’s inability to effectively close down passing lanes and provide adequate cover for its defenders is becoming a recurring theme.

The absence of Fabián Ruiz was also keenly felt in midfield. His replacement, Dro Fernandez, struggled to cope with Monaco’s physicality and technical prowess. Kang-In Lee, despite being a regular starter for Havre, has yet to consistently impact games for PSG, leaving Luis Enrique with limited options in midfield.

Enrique’s Adjustments and a Looming Champions League Clash

Luis Enrique’s substitutions, bringing on Ousmane Dembélé, Senny Mayulu, and Kang-In Lee, did little to change the course of the match. Dembélé, returning from a calf injury, lacked sharpness, while the other substitutes struggled to make a significant impact. The PSG manager’s attempts to inject energy into the team proved insufficient against a well-organized and determined Monaco side.

The atmosphere at the Parc des Princes was described as subdued, with a noticeable absence of fervent support from the home fans. Balogun and Akliouche Shine for Monaco

Folarin Balogun, making his 100th Ligue 1 appearance, was a constant threat to the PSG defense. Since 2022-23, Balogun is the second-highest top-flight scorer in Ligue 1 (38 goals), behind Amine Gouiri (40 goals). Akliouche also delivered a standout performance, capping off a fine display with the opening goal. The duo’s contributions were instrumental in Monaco’s victory.
