Pallacanestro Recanati: Futuro Solido e Crescita con Società e Sponsor verso la Serie B 2026/2027

RECANATI, Italy – Pallacanestro Recanati is embarking on a significant organizational shift, aiming to solidify its position as a key player in Italian basketball and a developmental hub for young talent. The club, with roots stretching back to 2001, outlined its ambitious plans at a meeting with sponsors, supporters, and collaborators on February 21st in Ancona, emphasizing a commitment to “solidity, programming, and zero flights of fancy.”

The core leadership team – President Stefano Ottaviani, Vice President Michele Casali, Sporting Director Marco Tarducci, and Youth Sector Head Francesco Maria Michelini – presented a vision for the club’s next 25 years. What began as a group of friends playing in the Promozione league has steadily grown, navigating through Serie D and Serie C to its current standing in Serie B. A key part of that growth, officials noted, has been a renewed focus on rebuilding the youth sector following the dissolution of US Basket Recanati.

Today, Pallacanestro Recanati boasts a substantial base: 255 registered athletes, 32 administrators, 18 coaches and trainers, over 20 volunteers, and more than 300 families involved in the organization. This translates to participation in seven youth leagues – including two at the Excellence level and two at the Gold level – alongside senior teams competing in DR2 and Serie B Interregionale. The club also runs a thriving minibasket program for children aged 5 to 11, hosting a total of approximately 220 games annually.

A cornerstone of the club’s developmental strategy is the Power Basket Academy, established in 2024. This collaboration with Aquila Basket Trento, a prestigious club in the Italian basketball landscape, and several local organizations – Project Basket Osimo, Sacrata Porto Potenza, CFM Loreto, and Montefano Basket – aims to provide a clear pathway for young players in the region. The academy’s goal is to establish Pallacanestro Recanati as a reliable and respected resource for aspiring basketball players.

The club’s philosophy, as articulated by leadership, is to prioritize player development, stating, “The Serie B showcase is at the service of the boys and not vice versa.” This commitment is driving a significant structural change: a transition from an Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica (ASD) to a Società Sportiva Dilettantistica a Responsabilità Limitata (SSD a RL) by June 30, 2026. This move is intended to broaden the club’s network of partners and attract new members, fostering growth in both ideas and resources.

The transition to an SSD a RL involves a defined timeline. Shareholder subscriptions are due by April 30th, with full operational status expected by June 30th. This will pave the way for registration in the 2026/2027 Serie B championship, with applications anticipated in early July. Officials acknowledge the challenges inherent in this process, but express optimism based on the club’s strong foundations and professional management.

Currently, Pallacanestro Recanati has 56 sponsors, with 30 represented at the February meeting. The club aims to leverage its expanding network – what they term an “effect network” – to further enhance its capabilities and reach. The club’s long-term vision is rooted in a pragmatic approach, as President Ottaviani noted, echoing the sentiment that “a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

The club’s history, whereas relatively young compared to some Italian basketball institutions, is marked by consistent growth and a dedication to community involvement. Founded in 2001, Pallacanestro Recanati has steadily climbed the ranks of Italian basketball, demonstrating a commitment to both competitive success and youth development. The Palasport Cingolani, with a capacity of 2,000, serves as the home court for the team, providing a local venue for games and community events.

Sponsorship is currently led by Svethia srl of Porto Recanati, an Italian company specializing in salary assignment reimbursement. Other sponsors include Rinnovar2.

Looking ahead, Pallacanestro Recanati’s next confirmed checkpoint is the completion of the transition to an SSD a RL by June 30th, 2026, and subsequent registration for the 2026/2027 Serie B season.
