PALERMO, Italy – A powerful initiative leveraging the unifying force of sport is set to make a significant impact on young lives in Palermo. The “TumìAmì” project will hold an event Wednesday, March 18th, at the Ics Perez Madre Teresa di Calcutta school (Via Vincenzo Errante 13) at 10:30 AM local time (09:30 UTC), focusing on inclusion and personal growth through athletic activity.
The project specifically targets minors and young adults still enrolled in school who are facing social vulnerability or are at risk of social deviance within the city of Palermo. “TumìAmì” utilizes sport as a tool for aggregation, personal development, and social inclusion, offering a positive pathway for those navigating challenging circumstances.
During the event at the Ics Perez-Madre Teresa di Calcutta – a key partner in the project – the school will receive a donation of modern sports equipment. This investment will allow students to continue participating in the project’s activities, reinforcing the educational and athletic progress they’ve already begun to make. The equipment donation underscores the commitment to sustained support for these young athletes.
The initiative is spearheaded by Life and Life Ets, serving as the lead organization, and in collaboration with the Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Piume d’Argento Badminton Club, the project’s sporting partner. The project receives promotional and financial backing from the regional Department of Family, Social Policies, and Labor.
Adding to the day’s activities, students will participate in a badminton demonstration match. Badminton, known as one of the fastest racquet sports in the world, serves as a symbolic representation of the project’s dynamic and engaging approach. The demonstration will showcase the skills developed through the program and inspire further participation.
The Ics Perez Madre Teresa di Calcutta has been actively involved in community initiatives, as evidenced by recent projects like “The Journey of Ulysses,” an interdisciplinary study for fifth-grade students, and “Aule della Memoria – The Names of the Children,” a project focused on remembrance. More information about the school and its activities can be found on its official website.
This event represents a tangible commitment to supporting vulnerable youth in Palermo, demonstrating the power of sport to foster positive change. The “TumìAmì” project isn’t simply about athletic skill development; it’s about building confidence, fostering social connections, and providing opportunities for a brighter future. The initiative highlights a growing recognition of the role sports can play in addressing complex social issues and promoting inclusivity.
The next step for the “TumìAmì” project involves continuing its activities at the Ics Perez Madre Teresa di Calcutta and expanding its reach to other schools and communities within Palermo. Organizers are planning further events and initiatives to build on the momentum generated by this week’s donation, and demonstration.
