Musiala Worries Bayern: Star Covers Face in Training – What’s Wrong?

Musiala’s Recovery and Bayern’s Injury Concerns

München – Concern surrounds FC Bayern’s attacking star Jamal Musiala, who has been sidelined since March 10th due to discomfort in his operated left ankle. The 23-year-old has been largely absent from public view at the club’s training grounds, occasionally spotted in the fitness areas. A recent sighting, however, revealed a moment of apparent frustration for the German international.

At 10:26 AM local time on Wednesday, Musiala emerged from the player’s cabin with rehabilitation coach Simon Martinello, dressed in training attire and wearing sandals. However, instead of heading for a rehabilitation session on the pitch, the pair sat down on the terrace overlooking the training grounds for a conversation. The scene took an unusual turn when Musiala suddenly covered his face with both hands, appearing visibly troubled. After approximately 20 minutes, Martinello placed a hand on Musiala’s shoulder and returned inside, while Musiala remained on the terrace with his phone until 10:52 AM before also heading indoors.

Concerns Over Musiala’s Progress

The incident raises questions about Musiala’s satisfaction with his rehabilitation progress. The ankle issue is particularly frustrating for the player, who recently returned to action in January after recovering from a fibula fracture sustained at the Club World Cup in July 2025. Bayern’s Sporting Director Christoph Freund recently acknowledged the difficulties Musiala is facing, stating, “It is not easy for Jamal right now, because he keeps having minor setbacks.” Reports suggest that pain in the tendons injured during the summer of 2025 is limiting him to indoor training.

These setbacks also mean Musiala will miss upcoming international matches against Switzerland on March 27th and Ghana on March 30th with the German national team, having last featured for Die Mannschaft in March 2025. For context, Munich is in the Central European Time (CET) zone, meaning the matches will be played during the afternoon for viewers in the United States.

However, discomfort following ankle surgery isn’t uncommon. Freund remains optimistic, stating, “Jamal is on a really good path. It was just a difficult injury.” The goal is to have Musiala available for Bayern’s crucial stretch of games following the international break. The Champions League quarterfinal matches against Real Madrid on April 7th and April 15th loom large, and his fitness will be vital.

Other Injury Updates from Säbener Straße

Fortunately, Bayern is seeing positive progress with other key players. Manuel Neuer, the team’s captain and goalkeeper, is nearing a return from a calf strain. He participated in a goalkeeping session with youth keeper Jannis Bärtl on Monday, utilizing specialized strobe glasses designed to enhance concentration by limiting peripheral vision. Alphonso Davies is also progressing well in his recovery from a thigh strain, working with rehabilitation coach Benjamin Sommer on ball work.

Jamal Musiala, a key player for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, known for his exceptional dribbling and technical skills. His absence is keenly felt as Bayern navigate a challenging schedule. The club will be hoping for positive news regarding his recovery as they prepare for a crucial period in the season.

Bayern’s next challenge comes after the international break, with the Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid taking center stage. Updates on Musiala’s condition will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
