MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Karolína Muchová continued her impressive form, dismantling Alexandra Eala 6-0, 6-2 in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open on Tuesday. The victory propels the Czech player into her first Miami Open quarterfinal and marks a significant milestone in what’s already proving to be a successful season for the Doha champion.
Muchová Cruises Past Eala in Straight Sets
Muchová entered the match against Eala as the clear favorite, and she quickly justified that billing. The Filipina player struggled to locate her rhythm from the outset, committing a series of unforced errors that allowed Muchová to race to a 3-0 lead with two service breaks. The early advantage set the tone for a dominant performance from the Czech.
While Muchová maintained an aggressive and nearly flawless game, Eala was unable to establish any consistency in the opening set. She continued to accumulate errors, ultimately succumbing to a humbling 6-0 defeat in just 22 minutes. Muchová committed only one unforced error during the set and fired ten winners, while Eala managed a mere six points – two on Muchová’s serve and four on return.
Eala had a glimmer of opportunity in the first game of the second set, reaching 30-0. However, she faltered, committing errors that allowed Muchová to break serve once again. The Czech continued her relentless pressure, extending her lead to 6-0, 3-0.
Muchová continued to display a fantastic and commanding performance, quickly increasing her advantage to 4-0. Eala finally found some respite in the 11th game, securing her first game of the match and temporarily averting the threat of a double bagel.
The Czech briefly lost some momentum, allowing Eala to gain a 30-0 lead on return. However, Muchová immediately regained control, swiftly turning the score around to 5-1. Eala managed to reduce the deficit to 5-2, but Muchová prevented any further comeback, closing out the match after exactly one hour of play.
With this decisive victory, Muchová has improved her best result at the Miami Open, having never previously progressed past the third round in four prior appearances. This marks the eighth time in her career she has reached the quarterfinal stage of a WTA 1000 event, holding a 4-3 record in those quarterfinals, including a walkover in Dubai in 2023. Her best result at this level remains her triumph in Doha earlier this year, where she secured her second and largest career title.
Muchová’s dominant win over last year’s semifinalist Eala, who has now lost all 12 professional matches against Czech opponents, underscores her excellent form. She currently boasts a 17-3 record for the season, with all three of her losses coming against players ranked within the top three in the world. According to match statistics, Muchová fired 20 winners against just 11 unforced errors, while Eala committed 13 unforced errors and tallied only seven winners.
In the quarterfinals, Muchová will face Victoria Mboko, whom she previously defeated in the final of the Doha event earlier this year in two closely contested sets. Mboko advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating her compatriot and doubles partner, Mirra Andreeva, 7-6, 4-6, 6-0.
“It felt pretty excellent,” Muchová said with a smile in her on-court interview, acknowledging the match’s flow. “I mean, you get nervous here and there when it’s going — I don’t want to say easy, but when the score is in your favor you have to be cautious.”
Eala’s campaign ends with a disappointing result, falling short of replicating her breakthrough semifinal run in Miami last year. This loss will result in a drop of 270 ranking points, likely pushing her down to the mid-40s in the WTA rankings. She will now shift her focus to the clay court season, beginning with the 2026 Linz Open in April.
