Badminton: TSV Meerbusch to Compete in Landesliga Next Season

The TSV Meerbusch badminton team will be dropping down to the Landesliga after finishing second to last in the Verbandsliga. In their final match of the season, they were defeated 0-8 by league leaders SSV WBG Bochum II, finishing the season with an 8-20 record. Despite the decisive scoreline, the match was closely contested, with six of the eight matches going to a third set.

Several Meerbusch pairings position up a strong fight, narrowly losing their matches 1-2. Tim Möhrke and Sven Lübbers, Sören Schreiber and Yong-Hwan Noh, Isabel Heuwing and Akane Nikawadori, as well as the duo of Möhrke and Heuwing in doubles, all experienced close defeats. Ralf Schmidt and Nikawadori both lost their individual matches in straight sets (0-2).

“We lost too many close games unluckily throughout the season and will now reposition ourselves in the Landesliga,” said team captain Isabel Heuwing. This relegation marks a shift for the team, and they will be looking to rebuild and compete strongly in the Landesliga next season.

Table Tennis: TTC Meerbusch’s Promotion Hopes Dwindle After Loss

The TTC Meerbusch suffered a 5-9 defeat against TTC Waldniel II in a crucial Bezirksoberliga match, effectively ending their chances of direct promotion. Despite a strong effort, the Meerbusch team couldn’t overcome the league leaders. They managed only one win in the doubles matches, courtesy of Mathis Rosenbaum and Steffen Klahold, and struggled in the initial singles round. Rainer Kopittke was the sole Meerbusch player to secure a victory in the first round, leaving the team trailing 2-7.

The second singles round saw Andreas von Huck, Klahold, and Kopittke bring the score to 5-8, but a second defeat for Daniel Treeker sealed the loss for TTC Meerbusch.

However, TTC Meerbusch bounced back with a convincing 9-5 victory over TTC GW Vanikum in their subsequent match. Three wins in the doubles were followed by two wins each from Rosenbaum and Treeker, and one win apiece from Kopittke and Dirk Abel.

Before their final season game on Sunday (11:00 AM) against TTV Süchteln, TTC Meerbusch holds a 38-4 record, three points behind Waldniel, and will participate in the promotion/relegation playoff as the second-placed team.

Volleyball: SG Osterath/TuSa Concludes Season with Defeat

SG Osterath/TuSa concluded their Landesliga season with a 0-3 loss against TV Mülfort-Bell. However, the defeat didn’t carry significant weight, as the team had already secured their league status for the following season. Finishing with 16 points, they ended the nine-team league in sixth place. The match against the second-placed team proved challenging, with scores of 15-25, 17-25, and 14-25.

Handball: TuS TD 07 Lank’s Second Women’s Team Draws with Lintfort II

The second women’s team of TuS TD 07 Lank drew 19-19 (9-10) against fellow Oberliga team TuS Lintfort II in a home match, missing out on their fourth consecutive win. The game was defensively focused, with Lank initially taking an 8-5 lead before Lintfort II fought back. Lank managed to salvage a point after trailing 13-16 in the 48th minute.
