TORUŃ, Poland – Spanish athlete Markel Fernández is eager to return to the World Indoor Championships, this time fully prepared to compete after a frustrating experience in Nanjing two years ago. Fernández will participate in both the 400 meters and the mixed 4×400 meter relay at the championships, which will be held in Toruń, Poland, from March 20-22.
“I was really looking forward to being able to say this. It’s official. I will be in Toruń competing in the 400m and the mixed 4x400m relay,” Fernández expressed, according to reports from Spanish media. “Last year in Nanjing, I experienced one of the toughest setbacks of my career: qualifying for the World Championships in the individual event, being there, experiencing a world championship, and then having to stay in the stands at the last moment due to a severe flu.
