MIAMI – Luka Dončić delivered a masterful performance, scoring 60 points as the Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to eight games with a 134-126 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night. The game, played at the Kaseya Center, saw Dončić overcome early Heat momentum and a back-to-back schedule to dominate, reigniting the MVP conversation.
Dončić’s scoring outburst – 18 of 30 from the field, including 9 of 17 from three-point range, and 15 of 19 from the free-throw line – came on the heels of a 40-point performance against the Houston Rockets just 24 hours prior, giving him 100 points over two games. He also added 7 rebounds and 5 defensive rebounds to his stat line.
Adding to the Lakers’ impressive showing, LeBron James recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. James, playing in his second game in as many nights, continues to defy expectations at age 41, displaying athleticism and endurance that belies his 23 seasons in the NBA.
The Lakers overcame a sluggish start, falling behind 42-29 in the first quarter. However, they steadily chipped away at the deficit, taking the lead in the third period (90-77). Despite challenges from Miami’s Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, Dončić consistently answered with crucial baskets, including a contested three-pointer with just over a minute remaining to seal the victory.
With 3:33 left in the game, Dončić reached the 50-point mark on an offensive rebound, and putback. A late foul by Miami’s Davion Mitchell on a Lakers’ inbound pass sent Dončić to the line, where he calmly sank both free throws, effectively ending the Heat’s comeback hopes.
The Kaseya Center crowd, recognizing Dončić’s exceptional performance, began chanting “MVP! MVP!” in the closing seconds, a testament to his impact even on enemy territory. Lakers fans, as is often the case, were well-represented in the Miami arena, adding to the atmosphere.
Dončić’s recent form has undeniably thrust him back into the MVP discussion. “The cheers? I was impressed, we were on the road after all. It’s something every player would seek to hear, it made me emotional,” Dončić said after the game. “We were tired, but it’s about staying focused. Coach Redick told us before the game it would be a game where you have to stay mentally strong. And that’s what happened, you tell yourself you’re not tired and you just keep playing.”
James, who tied Robert Parish for the NBA record in regular-season games played (1,611), was remarkably efficient, shooting 8 of 12 from the field. His continued high level of play is a key factor in the Lakers’ success. He became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, surpassing a mark he himself previously held.
The Lakers’ winning streak has propelled them to third place in the Western Conference standings. This victory over Miami, a team that had been playing well, is a significant step forward as they continue to build momentum towards the playoffs.

When asked about the MVP chatter, Dončić deflected the attention, stating, “You media are the ones who vote, I don’t have much to do with it.” While he has never won the MVP award (finishing third in 2024), he has been a five-time All-NBA First Team selection since 2020.
The Lakers will continue their road trip on Saturday with a visit to Orlando. The Heat will travel to Houston to face the Rockets on the same day.
