Even a blister on his hand couldn’t derail his momentum. “After the first run, everything was completely red in my hand, and I was thinking like, ‘Oh, I hope it’s not gonna pop in the beginning,’ but I hit the triple there and a bit short and popped open and it was quite painful,” Coenen said. However, he added, “With adrenaline, you don’t really feel it, so I mean, it’s worth a win.” The first red plate of his career is a moment he won’t soon forget. “That’s the first one I’ve owned since I started in 125, so it feels quite amazing,” he stated. Despite the excitement, Coenen remains grounded, acknowledging that “It’s still the beginning of the season, so we gotta be consistent every time there and just be up front.”
Herlings Fights Through the Pain
For Jeffrey Herlings, the weekend presented a tougher challenge. A significant crash during Saturday’s qualifying session took a toll, both physically and in terms of championship points. “I was catapulted over the bike,” Herlings described. “My neck and back were especially badly hurt.” While he avoided any fractures, the impact left him stiff and sore. Despite the discomfort, Herlings persevered, demonstrating his renowned resilience and determination.
Herlings acknowledged the difficulty of matching Coenen’s pace. “I don’t like to get my ass kicked, so I hope to be a bit closer again next time,” he said, indicating his commitment to closing the gap.
