Cahors, France – The Lot Departmental Youth Badminton Championships concluded this weekend, showcasing promising young talent from across the region. Nearly 90 players, ranging from benjamin (ages 6+) to junior levels, competed in doubles play on Saturday, March 14th, at the Halle des Sports in Espère and singles competition on Sunday, March 15th, at the Complexe Cabessut in Cahors.
The championships saw a particularly strong performance from Pradines Badminton (PB46), with the club’s athletes securing a significant portion of the medals. According to results, Pradines Badminton players claimed five of the seven titles available in the singles competition on Sunday.
The event organizers, Pradines Badminton and the Comité 46 badminton, faced logistical challenges in managing the tournament across two different venues, requiring the movement of equipment, organization materials, IT infrastructure, and refreshments. Their efforts were crucial to the smooth running of the competition.
Singles Champions Crowned
Several young athletes from Pradines Badminton stood out, earning gold medals in their respective categories. Laura Prévost took the title in the benjamine (youngest) women’s singles, whereas Eden Poteau emerged victorious in the benjamine men’s singles. Anna Boumbaly secured gold in the minime (middle age group) women’s singles, and Valentin Lartigue claimed the minime men’s singles title. Matéo Monasse completed the club’s impressive showing by winning the cadet (oldest age group) men’s singles.
The competition wasn’t without its close contests. Maélyne Guirado earned a silver medal in the benjamine women’s singles, while Clément Andrieu secured silver in the benjamine men’s singles. Thelio Baffaly took silver in the minime men’s singles, and Nathan Dussillol earned a silver medal in the junior men’s singles.
Bronze medals were also awarded to Margaux Lartigue (benjamine women’s singles), Arthur Bourmaud (benjamine men’s singles), and Naïs Nadal (minime women’s singles), recognizing their strong performances throughout the tournament.
Doubles Success for Pradines Badminton
The success of Pradines Badminton extended to the doubles competition held on Saturday. The club’s athletes won five of the six titles available. Lana Ciecko and Margaux Lartigue were crowned champions in the benjamine women’s doubles. Anna Boumbaly and Laura Prévost secured the title in the cadette women’s doubles. Pablo Chatelin-Vavasseur and Timéo Boumbaly won the benjamin men’s doubles, while Clément Andrieu and Eden Poteau triumphed in the minime men’s doubles. Matéo Monasse, partnering with Esteulle Martin from Awful Bouriane, secured the cadet men’s doubles title.
Aurore Larguille, partnering with Eloane Giscard of Gramat, earned a silver medal in the benjamine women’s doubles. Léo Joseph and Théo Prévost secured silver in the junior men’s doubles. Elise Le Cozannet-Dumas Zhang and Elina Clément took bronze in the benjamine women’s doubles, as did Timaé Flochlay and Rafael Goncalves in the benjamin men’s doubles. Roméo Goulmot and Valentin Lartigue earned a bronze medal in the cadet men’s doubles, and Nathan Dussillol and Baptiste Reis-Lagreze secured bronze in the junior men’s doubles.
The club extended its gratitude to the volunteers who contributed to the event’s success, assisting with setup, coaching, refreshments, cleanup, and providing baked goods.
