A busy week of high school sports across Long Island and beyond saw thrilling finishes and standout performances in lacrosse, baseball, softball, and badminton. Here’s a glance at the key results and highlights from the latest action.

Girls Lacrosse

Long Island Lutheran secured a dramatic 11-10 overtime victory against The Stony Brook School in a PSAA opener on Thursday night. The game was decided by a golden goal from Sophie Lambert with just 4:35 remaining in the first overtime period. Newsday reported that Lambert finished with a remarkable six goals, while her twin sister, Bella Lambert, anchored the defense with 14 saves. The Stony Brook School put up a strong fight, led by Natalia Pagano’s four goals and a three-goal, two-assist performance from Mia Trama.

Elsewhere in Suffolk II, Westhampton defeated Rocky Point 11-9. Mia Mastropierro led Westhampton with three goals and an assist, supported by Ava Derby and Mackenzie Klammer, who each scored twice. Mia Brown recorded 10 saves in goal for Westhampton.

Oceanside emerged victorious against Calhoun with a 9-7 scoreline in Nassau II. Riley Kudlek was the standout performer for Oceanside, scoring four goals and collecting six ground balls. Boys Lacrosse

Hicksville edged out Great Neck South 6-5 in a non-league contest. Kevin Goldthwaite scored three goals, and Chris Suflay was crucial in goal with 19 saves. Jack Ferraro added a goal and two assists for Hicksville. Alex Menzies scored twice for Great Neck South, while Ritvik Dutta made seven saves.

Softball

Bethpage remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory over East Meadow in Nassau II. Rylee Petruskie pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and allowing only one run. Petruskie, Daniella Palmeri, and Isabella Lomangino each recorded two hits for Bethpage.

Floral Park defeated Valley Stream North 13-11 in a high-scoring affair in Nassau IV. Bridget Schmitz went 3-for-3 with a double, while Madison Sica and Chloe Zielinski both had outstanding offensive performances, with Sica going 3-for-3 with three doubles and five RBIs, and Zielinski going 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Wednesday’s Games

East Islip defeated Smithtown East 5-4 in a back-and-forth Suffolk III opener. Cate Ropiak was the hero for East Islip, hitting a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning and striking out eight batters over seven innings. Reagan O’Hara went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs, while Lexi Kneisel finished 2-for-4 with a run.

Mineola shut out Clarke 5-0 in its Nassau II opener. Autumn Malone pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out nine batters. Juli Plunkett led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double, and a walk. Ava Lopez and Gianna Leggio each added an RBI.

Baseball

Plainedge defeated Wheatley 8-6 in Nassau A. Taylor Nitsch struck out 10 batters over four innings, and Bobby Wescott earned the save with six strikeouts. Jaxson Torres and Brady Henderson each drove in two runs for Plainedge.

Smithtown West edged out Deer Park 2-1 in a Suffolk IV opener. Kyle Flood allowed only one run on two hits and two walks over five innings, striking out five batters. Tyler Austin secured the save with three strikeouts in an inning. Jesse Lishinsky went 1-for-2 with a double and scored both runs for Smithtown West.

Wantagh defeated Floral Park 8-2 in Nassau A. Sal Ansaldi led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, including a home run and three RBIs. Ryan Tullo added two hits, including a two-run triple. Tommy Terravecchia and Luka Sumberac combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound.

East Islip shut out Bellport 6-0 in a Suffolk IV opener. Lucas Patton pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out 10 batters. Christian Valenti contributed with a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt, setting up a run-scoring hit by Nicholas Azzizzo. Teague Nolan and Chris Rizzo each had two hits.

Girls Badminton

Deer Park secured its first team victory of the season, defeating North Babylon 7-2 in Suffolk I. Maheen Tariq’s win in second singles clinched the win for Deer Park. The Falcons’ singles players swept their matches, demonstrating their dominance in the competition.
