Chomutov, Czech Republic – Forward Kryštof Ouřada has left Piráti Chomutov after just one season with the club, the team announced Wednesday. The departure is part of a larger roster turnover for the team following a challenging season battling for survival in the Czech Extraliga.
“We negotiated with Kryštof and worked to keep him, but he received an offer from another club that we couldn’t match,” said Viktor Hübl, the team’s executive manager and coach. “I believe both sides understand, and we are parting ways without major issues.”
Ouřada, 25, returned to Chomutov – his hometown and where he developed through the local academy – last summer after six years away. Despite a season hampered by injury, he recorded 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists) in 39 games, finishing fourth in team scoring. He hadn’t played in a competitive match since January 21st due to his injury.
“I would like to wish Kryštof all the best. I hope we meet again in the future,” Hübl added.
The forward previously played professionally in Prostějov and Ústí nad Labem before enjoying a successful stint with HC Kolín. He spent three seasons with Kolín, amassing 93 points (44 goals, 59 assists). In the 2022-23 season, he was their leading scorer with 18 goals, and followed that up with a team-best 41 points in the subsequent season.
Throughout his career, Ouřada has appeared in 275 first-league games and has played in the top Czech league with Chomutov and Hradec Králové on three occasions.
Ouřada’s departure is the eighth confirmed player exit for Piráti Chomutov this offseason, as the team reshapes its roster following a difficult season. The team is also without captain Petr Ulrych, who will not be returning.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by teams like Chomutov in retaining key players when competing with clubs that can offer more lucrative contracts.
