ANCONA, Italy – The Judo Club Samurai Jesi marked International Women’s Day, March 8th, with a judo event at the Palasport Sabbatini in Ancona, Italy, celebrating women in the sport and fostering inclusivity. The event drew young athletes from across Italy and featured a special guest appearance from French judoka Julien Bruland.
The day began with a series of activities for young participants, including gymnastic exercises, standing and ground fighting drills, and technique exchange sessions, all conducted in a positive and supportive atmosphere. The focus wasn’t solely on competition; organizers aimed to create a space where young athletes could learn and grow together.
A demonstration of self-defense techniques specifically tailored for women followed the initial training sessions. Organizers emphasized that the goal wasn’t to teach complex techniques, but rather to instill a sense of confidence and resilience – to empower women with the understanding that they possess the strength and determination to react in challenging situations. This message resonated strongly with attendees, highlighting the importance of self-awareness and assertive responses to potential threats.
All the children participating received a judo medal recognizing their involvement in the event, a gesture designed to encourage continued participation and celebrate their achievements. The day culminated in a competitive tournament, attracting judo clubs from various regions of Italy. This provided a platform for athletes to test their skills and experience the thrill of competition.
Adding an international dimension to the event, the Judo Club Samurai Jesi welcomed Julien Bruland, a French judoka dedicated to promoting the sport globally. Bruland’s visit provided a unique opportunity for local athletes to train with an experienced international competitor. He began by working with athletes with disabilities, expressing his satisfaction with the experience. He then extended his training sessions to pre-competitive and competitive groups, sharing his expertise and insights. Bruland also led an additional lesson on Sunday for all participants of the Ancona event.

The club has expanded its reach to include locations in Chiaravalle, Staffolo, and Senigallia, demonstrating its commitment to growing the sport throughout the region. Currently, the club is actively involved in several initiatives promoting inclusivity and social responsibility.
One such initiative is “Judo4Sen,” a project funded by the Erasmus+ 2024 program. This project aims to promote equal opportunities and social inclusion in sports through the application of conative methodology and the organization of an international judo event involving participants from 13 European countries. The club is also running the “SPORT, EDUCATE, INCLUDE (S.E.I.) 2.0” project, focused on promoting social inclusion through sport, particularly for children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs.
This event at the Palasport Sabbatini wasn’t just a judo competition; it was a celebration of women’s strength, a demonstration of the sport’s inclusive spirit, and a testament to the Judo Club Samurai Jesi’s dedication to both athletic excellence and social responsibility. The club’s ongoing projects, like Judo4Sen and S.E.I. 2.0, underscore their commitment to making judo accessible to all, regardless of ability or background.
