Ice Show “Road to a Dream” in Jelgava: Stars, Tickets & Details 2024

Jelgava, Latvia – A unique ice show, titled “Ceļš uz sapni” (The Road to a Dream), is set to take place on April 10th at the Jelgava Ice Hall, promising a captivating blend of athletic skill, musical artistry, and theatrical performance. The show builds on the success of a similar event organized by “SK Zemgale” in late 2024, and aims to deliver an inspiring experience for audiences of all ages.

The production will feature a diverse cast, including skaters from the Jelgava Ice Sports School (JLSS), alongside internationally recognized figure skaters. Among the headliners are Latvia’s own Deniss Vasiļjevs, a European Championship bronze medalist and multiple-time Latvian champion, as well as Anete Ditrta and Janiks Bonērs, five-time German and French champions who have likewise performed in world-renowned ice shows like “Holiday on Ice” and “Lido de Paris”. Adding a further dimension to the spectacle will be French showman David Guillaume, known for his extreme skating, acrobatic stunts, and impressive fire effects.

“The show combines sport, music, and stage art, creating an atmosphere of inspiration and true ice magic, where dreams come alive,” stated Aivars Zeltiņš, a board member of “SK Zemgale.” “It’s not just an ice performance – it’s a story about the journey to oneself and the path to triumph, told through movement, music, and light.” Zeltiņš confirmed that 15 athletes from the JLSS will participate, choreographed by Jūlija Tepliha, with overall direction provided by Dmitrijs Gaitjukevičs, a choreographer, scenographer, dancer, and dance pedagogue who also chairs the Dance Award jury.

The Jelgava Ice Hall, which opened in 2001 as part of the Zemgale Sports Complex, has grow a central hub for ice sports in the region. As noted by SK Zemgale, the facility is home to the Zemgale/LLU hockey club, the JLSS hockey program (which includes nearly 400 skaters), figure skating groups, and short track speed skaters. The hall also holds a significant place in Latvian sports history as the birthplace of curling in the country, though major curling events have since moved to a specialized facility in Riga.

For Anastasija Konga, a figure skater with the JLSS, the show offers a welcome change of pace from the pressures of competition. “I’m happy to be back in training and I’m really looking forward to going out on the ice in front of the audience in my competition dresses,” Konga said. “Some elements had to be remembered, but I continue to work and hope to be able to skate the planned performances well. I like the format of the ice show due to the fact that there is not as much stress as in competitions and you can really enjoy what you do.”

The “Ceļš uz sapni” ice show is scheduled for April 10th at 6:30 PM local time (UTC+3) at the Jelgava Ice Hall. Tickets, priced at 28 euros, are available through the “Biļešu paradīzes” ticket offices and website. Children under 6 years of age are admitted free of charge if they do not occupy a separate seat.

This event represents a continuation of efforts to promote both high-level athletic achievement and accessible cultural experiences within the Jelgava community. The combination of local talent from the JLSS and internationally acclaimed performers is designed to appeal to a broad audience, showcasing the artistry and athleticism of figure skating in a dynamic and engaging format. The show’s narrative focus on “the road to a dream” adds a layer of emotional resonance, potentially connecting with viewers on a personal level.

The Jelgavas Ledus sporta skola (JLSS), as highlighted by the Jelgava City Council, plays a crucial role in developing professionally-oriented sports education, fostering a healthy and active lifestyle among its students. The school’s involvement in the ice show underscores its commitment to showcasing the skills and dedication of its athletes beyond the traditional competitive arena.

As the April 10th performance approaches, anticipation is building within the Jelgava community and among figure skating enthusiasts. The “Ceļš uz sapni” ice show promises to be a memorable event, blending the thrill of athletic performance with the beauty of artistic expression.
