BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of Sean East II, a dynamic guard coming off a record-breaking season with the Edmonton Stingers. East II, who finished second in the 2025 CEBL MVP voting and earned All-CEBL First Team honors, is poised to develop into a foundational piece for the Honey Badgers as they pursue a championship.
East II’s 2025 campaign with the Stingers was nothing short of spectacular. He led the CEBL in total points scored (582), field goals made (215), and boasted the highest field goal percentage (.532) among guards. His scoring prowess was on full display throughout the season, highlighted by four games with 30 or more points, including a season-high 36 in the Western Conference Play-In game.
“Sean East II is an MVP-caliber player and a foundational piece to build our franchise around,” said Honey Badgers CEO Al Whitley in a team statement. “We are grateful and excited that Sean shares our vision and championship aspirations as he joins this new era of Honey Badgers basketball. This marks a significant day for our organization and for our fans across Brampton and the entire Peel Region.”
The signing comes on the heels of a remarkable year for East II, which extended beyond the CEBL. He was selected to participate in the NBA Rising Stars game, showcasing his talent alongside some of the league’s brightest young prospects from the NBA G League. He as well earned an invitation to the NBA G League’s Next Up All-Star event, a rare feat shared with only Jahmir Young of the Miami Heat and Alijah Martin of the Toronto Raptors.
Currently, East II is averaging 19.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 29.1 minutes per game with the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz’s affiliate club in the NBA G League. Through the regular season, he ranks sixth in total points scored (626) in the G League, demonstrating his consistent scoring ability at the professional level. His journey to this point has been marked by dedication and a relentless pursuit of improvement.
East II expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Honey Badgers, stating, “Brampton’s front office team presented me with a fantastic opportunity to play a large role in getting the organization back on the path to winning a championship, and that is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up on. From me, Honey Badgers fans can expect a willingness to do what it takes to win, a strong work ethic, and lots of buckets. I can’t wait to get to the city, meet the team, and get to work this summer.”
The Brampton front office clearly sees East II as a key component of their future success. His path to professional basketball included Exhibit 10 Training Camp contracts with both the Los Angeles Lakers (2024) and the Utah Jazz (2025), demonstrating his ability to compete at the highest levels. He was initially drafted third overall in the 2024 NBA G League Draft by the Cleveland Charge, before making his professional debut with the Lakers at NBA Summer League, where he averaged 6.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 22.1 minutes across seven games.
Notably, East II will be reunited with Honey Badgers Head Coach Alex Cerda, who served as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers during East II’s time there. Cerda emphasized East II’s competitive spirit and leadership qualities, saying, “We’re really excited to add Sean East to our group in Brampton. He’s a tough, competitive guard who plays with a chip on his shoulder and consistently finds ways to impact winning. Sean brings great energy, leadership, and a team-first mentality on both ends of the floor. Having had the opportunity to coach him before, I know the type of competitor and person he is, and I’m excited to be reunited and work with him again this season. He’s the type of player our fans will love watching this summer.”
East II’s collegiate career was equally impressive, spanning five years and three universities. He concluded his college journey at the University of Missouri Tigers in 2024, averaging 17.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.1 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. He was recognized as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and consistently ranked among the conference leaders in key statistical categories, including minutes played, field goal percentage, points, and assists.
Honey Badgers General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations, Jermaine Anderson, highlighted East II’s potential, stating, “Sean is a dynamic guard with a unique ability to score in a variety of ways, and was arguably the best player in the league last season. As a second-year pro, he has already demonstrated elite level efficiency and consistency, which is rare for a player at this stage of his career. He’s a foundational piece for our organization, and we glance forward to welcoming Sean to the Honey Badger family.”
Before his time at Missouri, East II honed his skills at John A. Logan College, where he earned NJCAA Player of the Year honors after leading his team to the NJCAA D1 Region XXIV Championship. He even recorded a collegiate career-high of 43 points in his final JUCO game, showcasing his scoring prowess early in his career.
The Honey Badgers have been actively building their roster for the 2026 season, and with the addition of East II and Jameer Nelson Jr., they are solidifying their backcourt. They are also joined by Keon Ambrose-Hylton, East II’s former teammate with the Edmonton Stingers, as well as Danilo Djuricic and Prince Oduro, all under the guidance of new Head Coach Alex Cerda.
The Brampton Honey Badgers are preparing for what they hope will be a championship run in the 2026 CEBL season.
