Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, France – The gymnasium in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon came alive with the sound of shuttlecocks on Saturday, March 14th, as the Badminton Grand Rhône (BGR) club hosted the Departmental Interclub Youth competition for 2026. The event, organized under the auspices of the Codep 30, showcased the rising talent in badminton across the Gard department.
A total of 12 teams participated, ranging from the youngest “poussin” category to the “cadet” level. Throughout the day, young badminton players demonstrated a competitive spirit and passion for the sport, delivering intense and spectacular matches. The competition provided a valuable platform for these athletes to hone their skills and experience team play.
Four clubs from across the Gard department were represented at the interclub event: the host club, Badminton Gard Rhodanien (BGR). OBC (Nîmes); Club d’Uzès; and CVN (Cévennes Badminton – Alès). Each club fielded teams across all age categories, fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition.
According to a statement from the BGR club, “The interclubs are a special moment in the season: here, you no longer play only for yourself, but for your team. Between encouragement from the sidelines and high-intensity confrontations, the young athletes offered a real spectacle, demonstrating the energy and motivation that drives badminton in the Gard.”
The BGR also expressed gratitude to the club’s volunteers and the officials from Codep 30 for their dedication to organizing the event, highlighting the positive momentum of badminton within the region. The success of the interclub competition underscores the growing popularity of the sport and the commitment of local clubs to nurturing young talent.
