Istanbul, Turkey – Former Beşiktaş chairman Fikret Orman’s recent statement following his detention as part of a drug investigation has sparked scrutiny, particularly regarding the timeline of his relationship with Güzide Duran. The case, involving the detention of 16 individuals including Duran, has drawn significant attention in Turkish sports and entertainment circles.
Orman’s statement, as reported by multiple Turkish news outlets, included the assertion that he had not used drugs and that Duran, his current partner, had also not used any illicit substances. “I have never seen or used drugs. Güzide Duran and I have been together since May 2021, and I have not witnessed her using any drugs or stimulants. On the contrary, we both prioritize a healthy lifestyle,” Orman reportedly said, according to TV100. However, the timing of that relationship is now under question.
Timeline Discrepancies Emerge
The assertion that Orman and Duran have been together since May 2021 is being challenged by reports detailing the timeline of their relationship and Duran’s ongoing divorce proceedings. According to reports, the first public confirmation of a relationship between Orman and Duran surfaced on July 1, 2025. Prior to that, Duran initiated divorce proceedings against her husband of 16 years, businessman Adnan Aksoy, in February 2025.
Notably, Aksoy’s divorce case included the names of both Fikret Orman and Okan Buruk as individuals Duran was allegedly having affairs with, as reported in Turkish media. Orman recently attended a divorce hearing in the case, whereas Buruk has yet to be called as a witness. This raises questions about the accuracy of Orman’s stated timeline.
Further complicating the matter is the reported complete of Orman’s seven-year relationship with Tuğba Coşkun in February 2025. The possibility of a concurrent relationship between Orman and Duran before the end of his relationship with Coşkun, and the alleged ability to keep it concealed for an extended period, is being questioned.
Broader Implications: Accountability for Public Figures
The case extends beyond the specifics of Orman’s statement and Duran’s divorce. It highlights a broader debate within Turkey regarding accountability for public figures accused of drug use. According to reports, over half of the 200+ celebrities detained as part of the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation since October 8, 2025, tested positive for drug use. However, due to the lack of jail time associated with drug use in Turkey, none of those individuals have faced imprisonment.
This lack of legal consequence has led to criticism that society is not holding these individuals accountable. Despite positive drug tests, singers continue to perform concerts, and actors continue to appear in films and television shows, including TRT’s “Cennetin Çocukları,” where, with the exception of İsmail Hacıoğlu, actors who tested positive faced no repercussions.
The situation has prompted calls for stricter measures, such as mandatory rehabilitation and temporary bans on professional activities for those testing positive. Keçiören Municipality’s decision to terminate the employment of 50 staff members who tested positive for drug use, with the offer of reinstatement upon successful completion of rehabilitation, has been cited as a potential model. Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan stated, “We have no business with drug users. Those who recover and regain their health are always welcome,” as reported by Turkish media.
The argument is that imposing consequences, even temporary ones, would differentiate between those who use drugs and those who do not, and strengthen the fight against drug use. The continued use of drugs by some public figures, despite ongoing operations, is attributed to the lack of any real consequences for testing positive.
Orman and Elmas Deny Allegations
Alongside Fikret Orman, former Galatasaray chairman Burak Elmas also provided a statement to prosecutors as part of the same investigation. Both Orman and Elmas denied any involvement with drug use, according to Türkiye Gazetesi. Elmas also refuted allegations of hosting drug and prostitution parties.
Orman specifically stated he had never owned a home in Acarkent, a neighborhood frequently mentioned in connection with the allegations, and has resided at the same address for the past 30 years. He also claimed to be unaware of the identities of individuals named in witness statements, Onur Yükçü and G.C.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the veracity of the claims made by Orman and others will likely be further scrutinized as the legal process unfolds. The case underscores the complex intersection of celebrity, public image, and legal accountability in Turkey.
As of March 28, 2026, the investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks. The next scheduled court date for the divorce proceedings involving Güzide Duran and Adnan Aksoy is currently set for April 15, 2026, where Okan Buruk may be called to testify.
