Eibar Retro Kit: Hummel Honors Garmendia & Historic Season at Madrid Fashion Week

Madrid, Spain – In a unique intersection of sport and style, SD Eibar will unveil its retro kit for the upcoming LaLiga season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid on Thursday, March 19, 2026. The presentation, part of LALIGA Fashion Night, marks the first time a Spanish football club has showcased its apparel at a major fashion event, highlighting the growing connection between football culture and the fashion industry.

The unveiling comes ahead of LaLiga’s first “Retro Day,” where clubs will don throwback kits during matches in rounds 31 of LaLiga EA Sports and 35 of LaLiga Hypermotion. While details surrounding the exact time and location of Eibar’s presentation remain under wraps – deliberately so, according to reports – the club has offered glimpses into the design process.

Eibar’s kit, created in partnership with Hummel and sponsored by Smartlog, will be a reimagining of a historic second strip. The club has stated the design will draw inspiration from a pivotal season in its history, incorporating elements from that era into a modern aesthetic. “A piece that connects generations and that reivindicates the identity of the club from its roots,” a club statement read.

Although, fans hoping to see the club’s traditional blue and maroon striped kit will be disappointed. Due to Eibar’s designation as the away team for the match against Real Valladolid on the weekend of April 11-12, the retro kit will be designed as an alternate strip. The Valladolid match date is still to be confirmed.

A Tribute to a Goalkeeping Legend

Beyond the reimagined second kit, Eibar will also unveil a special goalkeeper jersey. This kit will be a faithful replica of the shirt worn by José Ignacio Garmendia during the 1987-88 season, a landmark year in the club’s history. Garmendia was instrumental in Eibar’s promotion to Segunda División after a 30-year wait, securing the championship with a victory at Tabira in Durango.

The 1987-88 second kit featured a white base with red collars and blue sleeve trim. It bore the sponsorship of Imigas and the logo of Meyba, a prominent Spanish sportswear brand of the 1980s. The club is clearly aiming to evoke nostalgia and celebrate a golden era in its history with this tribute.

Preparing for Andorra Amidst Kit Excitement

While the fashion world anticipates the kit reveal, Eibar’s players are focused on their upcoming LaLiga Hypermotion match against FC Andorra on Saturday, March 21st at 16:15 CET (10:15 AM EDT). Following a day of rest on Tuesday, the team returned to training to prepare for the match at the Nou Estadi Encamp.

Eibar is looking to build on a recent 0-0 draw against Burgos at Ipurua. Andorra, meanwhile, comes into the match off a 1-1 draw against Granada, a result that has bolstered their fight against relegation. The match presents a crucial opportunity for both teams to secure valuable points in their respective campaigns.

Andorra is currently under the guidance of manager Carles Manso, who took over in late November, replacing Ibai Gómez. Manso previously led Arenas de Getxo to promotion to Primera RFEF, a feat achieved at Ipurua, Eibar’s home stadium.

The intersection of fashion and football, exemplified by Eibar’s participation in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, demonstrates the evolving cultural landscape of the sport. It’s a move that not only generates excitement among fans but also broadens the appeal of LaLiga and its clubs to a wider audience. The retro kits are more than just apparel. they are tangible links to the past, celebrating the history and identity of these storied clubs.

Eibar fans will be keenly watching both the fashion show and the match against Andorra, hoping the retro inspiration translates into success on the pitch. The club’s next confirmed fixture is the away match against Real Valladolid on April 11-12, where the new kit will produce its official on-field debut.
