Egoitz Bijueska: World Skateboarding Champion at 15 | Bilbao Skater Wins Gold in São Paulo

São Paulo – Egoitz Bijueska, a 15-year-old skater from Bilbao, Spain, has claimed the title of World Champion in skateboarding’s park discipline. The victory came Sunday at the WST Skateboarding World Championships in São Paulo, Brazil, a competition originally slated for September 2025 in Washington D.C. But delayed due to budgetary constraints. This win caps a remarkable run for Bijueska, who also secured the World Cup title in Ostia, Italy and the Spanish Championship in the past year.

The competition, held in a rain-delayed event, saw Bijueska navigate a challenging field of international skaters. He consistently performed well throughout the qualifying rounds, finishing fourth in the quarterfinals and third in the semifinals with a score of 88.01, earning his place in the final – where he was the sole European competitor.

The final round featured a formidable lineup including Brazilian skaters Cini and Konig, Australians Palmer and Wilson, and Americans Schaar, Bottger, and Nye. The eight finalists were given three rounds to land their best tricks, with the top five earning a fourth, “golden” round to push for the championship.

Bijueska’s performance built momentum throughout the competition. He steadily improved his scores, posting 92.28 in his second run, placing him at the top of the leaderboard alongside Konig (91.66) and Schaar (90.51). A slight stumble in his third run didn’t derail his progress, as his rivals also struggled to improve their scores.

The tension reached its peak in the final round. Wilson and Nye both failed to score after falling on their runs. Schaar delivered a solid performance but couldn’t surpass his previous best of 90.51. Konig, fueled by the enthusiastic support of the home crowd, then set a high mark of 94.80, seemingly taking the lead.

However, Bijueska remained unfazed. Focusing intently, he executed a flawless 45-second run, landing all of his planned tricks with precision. The judges rewarded his performance with a score of 95.83, securing him the World Championship title. American Tom Schaar finished third with a score of 90.51.

The victory underscores Bijueska’s rapid ascent in the skateboarding world. He has been training in the United States in recent months, honing his skills in preparation for major competitions. His success is also a testament to the Spanish skateboarding program, led by selector Alain Goikoetxea.

While Bijueska’s triumph was the highlight for the Spanish team, other Spanish skaters also made their mark at the championships. Naia Laso, from Bermeo, reached the semifinals in the women’s park event, finishing fourth in her qualifying group. Gadea Moja and Alain Kortabitarte competed in the qualifying rounds, gaining valuable experience, as did Peio González.

The WST Skateboarding World Championships São Paulo 2025, despite the initial scheduling challenges, proved to be a showcase for the sport’s rising stars. The event, originally planned for Washington D.C., ultimately found a vibrant home in Brazil, providing a fitting stage for Bijueska’s historic victory. The competition highlighted the growing global appeal of skateboarding, with athletes from Europe, Australia, and North America joining the strong Brazilian contingent.

Bijueska’s win is particularly noteworthy given his age and the caliber of competition he faced. His ability to perform under pressure and deliver a near-perfect run in the final demonstrates a maturity and skill level beyond his years. He now stands as a leading figure in the sport, poised for continued success.

The skateboarding world now looks ahead to future competitions, with Bijueska expected to be a strong contender in upcoming events. His performance in São Paulo has undoubtedly raised the bar and inspired a new generation of skaters.

Next up for Bijueska is expected to be preparation for further international competitions, though a specific schedule has not yet been released by the Spanish skateboarding federation. Fans can follow updates on his progress through official skateboarding channels and news outlets.
