GLIWICE, Poland – Goalkeeper Dominik Holec has quickly secured a modern club following his departure from FC Baník Ostrava, signing a three-month deal with Polish Ekstraklasa side Piast Gliwice. The move, confirmed on March 26, 2026, comes shortly after Holec terminated his contract with the Czech club.
The 31-year-classic Slovakian international had been with Baník Ostrava for nearly two years, but fell out of favor in the starting lineup earlier this year, with Martin Jedlička taking over the goalkeeping position. Reports indicated Holec had requested time away from the first team in January for personal reasons, ultimately leading to the mutual termination of his contract.
Piast Gliwice are seeking a replacement for František Plach, another Slovakian goalkeeper, who is sidelined with a knee injury expected to keep him out for several months. Holec’s arrival provides immediate cover and competition in the goalkeeping department for the Polish club.
Holec’s career has seen him move frequently, including loan spells from his parent club MŠK Žilina to Teplička nad Váhom, Pohronie, ViOn Zlaté Moravce, and Senica. He likewise had stints with Sparta Prague, Raków Częstochowa, and Lech Poznań before joining Baník Ostrava. He briefly played for Lech Poznań II during his time with Lech Poznań.
Prior to his move to Piast Gliwice, Holec had a successful spell with Baník Ostrava, helping the team achieve a third-place finish in the Czech league last season. His form earned praise, with some observers considering him one of the top goalkeepers in the Czech Republic at the time.
Holec began his professional career with MŠK Žilina in 2012, making 54 league appearances for the club before a series of loan moves. He made his Fortuna Liga debut for ViOn Zlaté Moravce in February 2017, conceding four goals in a match against his former club, Žilina.
The goalkeeper has also represented Slovakia at the U17, U19, and senior levels, earning one cap for the national team in 2022. He stands at 1.91 meters (6 feet 3 inches) tall.
While the contract with Piast Gliwice is initially for three months, the move provides Holec with an opportunity to regain regular playing time and showcase his abilities in the Polish Ekstraklasa. The club will be hoping he can replicate the form he showed during his time with Baník Ostrava.
Piast Gliwice currently sit 11th in the Polish league table and will be looking to climb the standings with Holec between the posts. The team’s next match is yet to be confirmed, but fans will be eager to see Holec make his debut.
This move marks a return to Poland for Holec, who previously had a loan spell with Raków Częstochowa in 2021. He will be hoping to make a more significant impact this time around.
The quick resolution to Holec’s club future after leaving Baník Ostrava demonstrates the demand for experienced goalkeepers in European football. His signing provides Piast Gliwice with a reliable option in a crucial position.
Fans can follow Dominik Holec’s progress at Piast Gliwice through the club’s official website and social media channels. Updates on his performances and the team’s results will be available on Archysport as the season progresses.
