Badminton Germany: Education Officer (Part-Time) – Job Opportunity

Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany – The German Badminton Federation (DBV) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Education Referent to join its team. This part-time position, based in Mülheim an der Ruhr, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of badminton across Germany, the largest badminton federation in Europe with approximately 160,000 members across 16 state associations.

The DBV, a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), is responsible for representing all interests of German badminton nationally, and internationally. This role is crucial in supporting the organization’s educational initiatives and fostering growth within the sport. The position is initially offered on a fixed-term contract until December 31, 2024, with the intention of extending the contract.

Job Details and Responsibilities

The primary focus of the Education Referent will be to plan, organize, and administer educational programs. This includes training courses, workshops, conferences, and online learning formats, all designed to facilitate effective knowledge management and transfer within the badminton community. The role also encompasses a range of administrative tasks related to education within the DBV and its member organizations, including license management and internal/external communication.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organization, and accounting for educational measures (e.g., training courses, workshops, conferences, online formats) for effective knowledge management and transfer.
  • General administrative tasks in the DBV’s education sector and for its members (license administration, coordination and communication internally and externally).
  • Coordination of the Shuttle-Time program (administration and organization of the worldwide school sports program).
  • Community management of the DBV’s Racketmind platform.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of competency-based concepts and qualification opportunities for coaches at the national level.
  • Collaboration with internal and external institutions, such as state associations and the DOSB.
  • Providing advice and presentations on education-specific topics.
  • Project and committee operate.

What the DBV is Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background, preferably in sports management or sports education, or a comparable qualification. A badminton coaching license, or a license in another sport, is considered a plus. Strong organizational and administrative skills, coupled with proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management, are essential. Good English language skills, both written and spoken, are also required.

Beyond technical skills, the DBV seeks a highly organized and team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and a willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends. Experience working within a sports federation or sports administration is advantageous. The DBV emphasizes the importance of a motivated and engaged individual who can contribute to a positive and dynamic work environment.

  • Academic degree with knowledge in sports management, sports pedagogy or comparable qualification.
  • Badminton or other sport coaching license desirable.
  • Commercial and administrative skills.
  • Good English skills in word and writing.
  • Confident handling of common office software (MS-Office); database knowledge is an advantage.
  • Organizational talent.
  • High level of teamwork and commitment – also outside of regular working hours.
  • Willingness to work on weekends.
  • Experience in a full-time or voluntary position in a sports association/sports administration is an advantage.

Compensation and Benefits

The DBV offers an engaging and varied role with significant scope for personal development within a motivated team. Compensation will be aligned with the DOSB/BMI funding guidelines. The position is initially fixed-term until December 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension.

the DBV is open to discussing increasing the position to full-time. This could be achieved either through expanding the role to include general administrative duties or by combining it with their concurrently advertised part-time position for a “Para Badminton Referent,” provided the candidate also meets the qualifications for that role.
