Badminton: FIB’s Grégoire Bodin – From Player to Supporter & Pursuit of Improvement | West France

The Flume Ille Badminton (FIB) club’s ascent to the Top 12 division hasn’t been without its individual stories of dedication and resilience. Among them is Grégoire Bodin, a 22-year-old badminton player who, despite not reaching the highest level himself this year, is embracing the club’s success and continuing to pursue his own development. Bodin, originally from Sens-de-Bretagne, a small commune north of Rennes, and having also played in Tinténiac, has develop into a key figure within the FIB structure.

“I participated in both promotions, from N2 to N1, and then from N1 to Top 12,” Bodin explained. “Even though I’ve dropped down to N3 this season, I don’t perceive any resentment. I’m happy to see where the team is today. This year, I’m taking on more of a role as a supporter.”

“I Haven’t Abandoned the Idea of Improving”

A knee tendon injury at the start of the season hampered Bodin’s chances of competing in the Top 12. He also felt he had reached a certain plateau while playing in N1 last year. “I was reaching my limit a bit, but I’m still listed as a potential replacement if needed,” he said. “I recently finished my Master 2 in computer science and am in an apprenticeship with a company, which meant I had to reduce my training. I do frequent the Régis Bridel Academy, which allows me to continue progressing.”

Bodin’s path to success hasn’t been conventional. He wasn’t identified by youth development programs, instead forging his own way to a national level N1 ranking – a feat many players who went through established training centers (CLE) or regional hopes poles might envy. “I developed later,” he admits. “At the beginning of my sporting project, I didn’t have the right training to be spotted. Although, I haven’t abandoned the idea of improving. Reaching a final in the elite circuit could allow me to take the next step.”

The FIB’s success isn’t just about the Top 12 team; the interclub competitions are also a major focus. “The playoffs for N3, and therefore promotion to N2, are a major objective of the season. We’ll need to deliver against three tough opponents.”

Bodin’s story is a testament to self-driven improvement and dedication to team success. While he may not be directly competing at the highest level currently, his commitment to the FIB and his continued pursuit of personal growth make him a valuable asset to the club. He embodies the spirit of perseverance, demonstrating that success can be achieved even without early recognition from traditional pathways.
