Badminton Club Sulbad: Lessons, Tournaments & Growing Membership!

SULNIAC, France – The Sulniac badminton club, known locally as SulBad, is preparing to host a tournament this Sunday, March 8th, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The event, set to take place at the Salle Alice-Milliat, aims to promote both sport and community engagement.

SulBad has experienced significant growth in recent years, currently boasting 110 members. This increasing popularity was evident at their recent general assembly, which drew a crowd of 70 people, according to Vice President Alexandre Kerviche. “The club is experiencing growing enthusiasm, as demonstrated by our general assembly which brought together 70 people,” Kerviche noted.

The club offers badminton instruction for all ages and skill levels. Kerviche leads classes on Thursdays, beginning with children aged 6-7 at 5:45 PM, followed by sessions for older children and adults at 6:45 PM. Notably, the club sees participation from parent-child duos, emphasizing its focus on recreational play. Free practice sessions are also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 PM, even during school holidays.

This weekend’s tournament is particularly special, aligning with International Women’s Day. SulBad will host a mixed doubles tournament open to all participants, including children. Kerviche explained the dual purpose of the event: “The objective is twofold: to encourage people to participate in sports and to create connections.”

The tournament schedule is divided into age groups. Children’s matches will begin at 9:00 AM, while adult competitions will take place in the afternoon. Registration is €5 and can be completed online through HelloAsso Sulbad.

SulBad’s commitment to accessibility and community building is evident in its diverse programming. The club’s growth reflects a broader trend of increased interest in recreational sports, offering a welcoming environment for both experienced players, and newcomers. For those unfamiliar with badminton, it’s a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. It requires agility, precision, and strategic thinking, making it a fun and challenging activity for all ages.

The club also announced on Facebook the upcoming 3rd edition of their “sul’blackminton” tournament, a nighttime badminton event featuring fluorescent attire and phosphorescent racquets, scheduled for November 10th. This event promises a unique and vibrant experience for participants.

Looking ahead, SulBad will continue to offer its regular programming and host tournaments throughout the year. The club’s next confirmed event is the sul’blackminton tournament in November. Those interested in learning more about SulBad or registering for events can visit their HelloAsso page or Facebook page for updates.
