Their consistent performance throughout the season has established them as a clear favorite for the national title.
Regional President Praises Sardinian Badminton Growth
The successes in Sicily were met with praise from Andrea Delpin, President of the Sardegna Badminton Regional Committee. Delpin expressed his satisfaction with the technical level displayed by the Sardinian teams, emphasizing that these results are tangible proof of the sport’s continued growth and its increasing ability to attract young athletes to the island. He highlighted the dedication of the players and coaches as key factors in their success.
Earlier in the season, the regional championships showcased the talent emerging from Sardinia. In November 2025, at the Absolute Regional Badminton Championships held in Maracalagonis, BC Angelo Roth demonstrated its dominance, securing two crucial men’s titles. Ivan Sotgiu of BC Angelo Roth won the men’s singles crown, defeating his teammate Antonio Roma in a thrilling final with a score of 21-19, 21-15. The duo then teamed up to win the men’s doubles, defeating the Cagliari pairing of Alessandro Puddu and Davide Pinna 21-16, 21-12.
The mixed doubles final at the regional championships was a nail-biting affair, ultimately won by Rita Pusceddu and Davide Pinna from Marabadminton Academy, who triumphed over Noemi Concas and Ivan Sotgiu (BC Angelo Roth) in a three-set match with scores of 21-19, 18-21, 21-14. Rita Pusceddu of Marabadminton also secured the regional women’s singles title, while Noemi Concas and Rita Pusceddu (Cagliari) claimed the women’s doubles title, highlighting the competitive depth in the women’s divisions.
BC Angelo Roth also came close to qualifying for Serie B in the national team championship playoffs held in San Bonifacio – Verona, but ultimately fell short, losing a close third set in the decisive men’s singles match against Veneto. Despite the narrow defeat, their performance demonstrated their potential for future success.
What’s Next for Sardinian Badminton?
The Matex Marabadminton Academy will now focus on preparing for the Serie A playoffs, aiming to retain their Italian championship title. BC Angelo Roth Alghero will appear to build on their fifth-place finish in Serie B and continue to develop their young talent. The continued growth of badminton in Sardinia, as recognized by President Delpin, suggests a bright future for the sport on the island.
