Audi SQ8 F1 Livery: Speciální edice inspirovaná motorsportem se blíží?

Shanghai, China – Audi is already leveraging its return to Formula 1, showcasing a special edition SQ8 SUV at the Chinese Grand Prix weekend. The vehicle, finished in a livery mirroring the Audi Revolut F1 team’s R26 single-seater, is a striking visual statement, but hints at a broader plan to infuse its high-performance RS models with F1-inspired technology and design elements.

The one-off SQ8, presented by F1 driver Nico Hülkenberg, was created as a promotional vehicle for the Chinese market launch of the SUV. The exterior features a combination of Titanium Gray and Carbon Black, accented with Lava Red highlights on the wheels, mirror caps, rear spoiler, front emblem, and exhaust pipes. According to Audi, the design study was developed in collaboration with the Audi Formula 1 design team.

Still, the impact appears to extend beyond a single promotional vehicle. Jürgen Rittersberger, Audi’s Chief Financial Officer and a member of the F1 team’s board of directors, recently indicated that elements from Formula 1 could be integrated into the brand’s high-performance RS models. This suggests a potential shift towards more track-focused performance enhancements in Audi’s road cars.

The possibility of F1-themed RS models was raised by Australia’s Drive magazine, which questioned Rittersberger about a potential RS5 with a more aggressive edge. Rittersberger did not dismiss the idea outright, stating, “Let’s spot.” He further emphasized that any such special edition would need to offer more than just cosmetic changes, needing to be “loaded with content” rather than simply relying on branding. This implies a focus on substantial performance upgrades and engineering enhancements.

Rittersberger also highlighted the potential for collaboration between Audi’s road car engineers and their F1 counterparts, particularly with the team’s drivers. This collaboration could lead to valuable insights into handling and dynamics, potentially resulting in RS models that offer a more refined and engaging driving experience.

Audi’s move to explore F1-inspired performance enhancements isn’t entirely new. Other manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, and Renault, have previously leveraged their Formula 1 involvement to create special edition road cars, often featuring unique styling cues and performance upgrades. These collaborations aim to capitalize on the prestige and technological advancements associated with the pinnacle of motorsport.

The SQ8 Livery Edition itself is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 TFSI engine producing 500 horsepower, allowing for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The vehicle features adaptive air suspension and a high-performance braking system, with optional ceramic brakes available. It’s equipped with a Bang & Olufsen 3D premium sound system and a sport interior with Valcona leather upholstery.

While the SQ8 Livery Edition is currently a one-off, the comments from Rittersberger suggest that Audi is seriously considering a more substantial integration of F1 technology and design into its RS lineup. The coming months will be crucial in determining the extent to which Audi’s Formula 1 ambitions will translate into tangible enhancements for its performance road cars.

Audi will continue its Formula 1 campaign with the upcoming race in Miami, Florida, on May 5th. Fans can follow the team’s progress and any further announcements regarding potential road car collaborations on the official Audi F1 website. https://www.audi.com/en/motorsport/formula-1.html
